What Temperature do you fly your GWS plane at?

Just wondering what temperature is the threshold for flying a gws plane in the winter?

Using 0 degrees celcius, 32 degrees farenheight as the border?

cold weather flying

in the last freeze...it was something in the 30's....can't remember exactly...thats in deg. F....the neighbors had left their sprinklers on and most of their bushes were covered in ice...the cold didn't seem to affect the plane....but then I only had a short walk from the house to the field....i was using a dx-a and 1020 kokams on a tiny.

I've flown the Zero in temps 'around' 0F this winter. No problems encountered..... Last year I was flying the SS Pro in the -10 range (after a couple of days of this last year, I decided to fly >0F and prefer above 20F, the following year LOL )

Anything above 20 degrees F is good for me. Below that and I get finger freeze. Not fun.

I regualry fly in -10 weather. Thats canadain, BTW. I just keep the batteris in front of a car heater till its ready to go. Then I use a transmitt and keep my hands warm.

-10 is the threshold for my NiMhs. I've never flown in temps above freezing.

I have flown in temperatures down to about -25 celcius. I just wear some thin gloves and I can still fly...but just R/E planes, nothing aerobatic as I usually fly at night in a lit parking lot.

You can't use NIMH at that temperature as they dont' last long at all, and you can't stay out for long because it is painfully cold on your hands.

Last winter I did a lot of night flying right around 0F with my TM. NiCAD's certainly are preferred.

At that temp I fly wearing thin driving gloves for warmth. I can do that with a TM, it's mushy-flying anyway.

Low temp will not harm your motor nearly as much as it will affect your battery life. Even NiCads severly degrade current drive ability at those low temps.

I fly between 10-30*F most of the Winter and haven't had any trouble.I use only nimh's now and I'll peak them just before i go fly and keep them in my pockects so the'll stay warm.Flight times are anywhere between 25-50% less during the Winter for me than in Summer.

If the fingers keep working, FLY! Even in big gloves mine stop working at about 25. As it gets colder, everything seems to break easier.

OK OK dont get on me for being a Floridian but....do you guys have any problems with the GWS tape hinges becoming brittle and non adhesive? I have seen my buddy Lesliex317537 shatter the cowl on his Zero in about 25F temps because it was so brittle.

I have still yet to find the perfect tape for hinges.

If it gets below freezing and especially if there is any wind, I'm outta there. I'd rather take the time and build than freeze. Course, I'm getting old too!

The cold doesn't make things break.
crashing breaks things.
I was flying a glow powerd airplane around Christmas a few years ago. It was below freezing
WOW talk about a lot of power!!
In the cold dense air. Engines make more power, props bite into the air better, wings fly better.
With the small park flyers should be the same we just have to keep the batt's warm.
Just like us.
