Question
Original RC10 with new duratrax esc question

I have unburried my original '88 RC10 and added a new battery and new speed control. The problem is that the new speed control isn't working --no power to the motor. The steering servo works but no power to the motor.

The set-up in the manual describes a green led illumination to indicate the neutral and red led for full throttle, both on for brakes, etc.

I do not think the LED's came up at all, which is probably why there is no power to the motor.

I am thinking the esc needs reset (says that settings will be stored until the esc is manually reset). I don't see in the manual how to reset the esc. Short of contacting Duratrax, can anyone give me some help?

RC10 original
Associated stock motor
Duratrax 4200mah NIMH 7.2v w/deans
Duratrax intellispeed ESC DTXM1055 deans/bullets

Thanks in advance,

Let's see....says DTXM1055 on the box.
It's a Duratrax Intellispeed 'auto sport' esc. I can dig up the sales receipt if that doesn't cover it.

Thanks again,

...also says 'With Super-Easy Automatic Setup!' right on the box.
I guess I need an easier than 'Super' Automatic Setup...

There is no manual "reset"

It should say in the manual how to set it up.

Turn on tx, turn on esc and within 2 seconds pull full trigger then push full reverse, then leave in neutral.

Here's what I found; The radio ATV-low needed to be turned all the way to zero (was around 1-2). ATV-high all the way up to 10 (which it was). Throttle trim at zero (which it was).

The manual notes to zero the trim and turn ATV up, guess I miss understood the low ATV... I get the green LED at neutral, red LED at full throtlle now. I should be getting red and green at brake but no-joy. At least it works now, though I'm not sure if it is setup correctly...

Here's what the manual says (that I missed..!)

Step 3: Transmitter Adjustments

Adjusting you transmitter (Tx) is critical for proper speed control operation. THe Tx throttle adjustments are described below:
- ATV, EPA, or ATL - set all to maximum.
-Throttle Trims and Sub Trims - set all at neutral or zero.

....What I did was set the ATL-high to maximum (well, confirmed that it was maximum).
...Checked throttle trim and zero'd.
...What I didn't do was move ATL-low to zero (now at zero!)

Step 5: Speed Control Set-Up

Before you begin this step, the ESC should be connected to the throttle channel on the Rx, and the Tx should have already been adjusted (refer to Step 3 for Tx adjustment). Before connecting the battery pack to the ESC, make sure the ESC switch is turned off.

Okay, so I blew it when I didn't follow step 3 for ATL-low at zero...!

Here's the deal that mentions a 'manual reset';

5) Move the throttle trigger back to neutral position, where the green LED will illuminate to indicate the ESC is now ready to run. Repeat the above steps if the green LED does not illuminate. All settings will be stored until the ESC is manually reset.

So, now that I messed up...I think it needs reset to get the most out of it. Mainly because I wasn't able to set it up. I just works because I zero'd the ATV-low trim.

If I now try to follow the setup procedure, it just works rather than updating. The manual says the motor will not operate in setup mode...and it operates when I try to setup correctly.

..any ideas on how to reset?

The TX adjustments can be set anywhere as long as it is done before the esc is set. (they should all be centered and maxxed out) then set up esc to match.

"manually reset" is an action rather than a noun. There is no "manual reset" (noun)

It is referring to redoing the procedure i the manual. A rest occurs when the esc is turned on and tx is pulled, pushed, then neutralled.
