Seba, just read the entire thread and WOW!

It has taken me a week or so but great stuff and an inspiration to give it a go myself. Have built Hotwire cutter and have modded aquarium pump. Nearly ready to have to fun experimenting.

Thank you for such a detailed thread with a wealth of information.

Cheers and keep at it,

Tom

Seba.Years of flying allow me to say.
That 1.5m span plane standard wing area
acceptable weight is 280gr
enjoyable weight is 260gr and less.
Love Your work.

Hard to argue with that. Still, I think for full 80g STF with rod spars (not wimpy tape), armored LE (split rod+kevlar+carbon ), prefaced flaps, full STF tails... 280g is pretty darn good.
There are lighter planes but I doubt there are any stronger ships then this one.
I got down to 36.5g for fuse. Glass/disser tails are 11.5-12.5g (STA more like 15-16g). Wings are coming up at 135g. I'll try to do little leaner wings. Its mostly do to heavier/stiffer foam (400+psi instead of 250) and glass (50g instead of 1.2oz).
Anyway, It's always very nice to hear from You Yuri.
Good luck and have fun!

280g isn't bad at all. I like to have 1 floater plane in my quiver, but beyond that it's not really necessary. If one is to ballast up in certain conditions, wouldn't it be better to have a stiffer, beefier airframe than to just have dead weight?

The last fuse I got from Adam was one of his light layups and was 35.8g. I'm finishing it up with my Seba wing and the Fr3aK tails. I'm shooting for 290g. The wing built out is 160g with a tanged throwing blade.

The relationship between weight and planform varies with the section chosen as well. A Zone V2 at 320in^2 and 280g is a heavy airplane. An AG 4x series airplane with the same area and planform at 280g would not be overly heavy.

Weight is really only an issue when you're flying contests, and then only when the lift is light, such as early or late in the day. Most of the time it's a non-issue, within reason.

Really nice work, these are some beautiful ships.

I'm at 280-290g with 350 in^2 on the Zone v2. I consider that a good all around weight but a 260g plane with that wing area would be wonderful on some days where the lift never really pops and the bubbles are far away.

Also keep in mind a heavy wing is rarely good. It signals lift worse than a light wing with ballast in the fuse. Maybe consider a full vlad carbon wing for the lighter ship, or the 64g Textreme, either should bring you into sub 130g territory at no cost increase or appreciable strength decrease.

I had 265g Edge plane and I understand how much easier she goes up in light lift but this is strong version/heavy layup and production wing have paint that cost few grams as well and on top of that I can get only 400+psi foam. If I have 250 i could do lighter. I'm considering replacing 50g glass with 25g.
All STF from now on will be 64g or less. This is new standard, definitely better material but weight savings may be minimal +/-5g.
Anyway from first impression feels more floaty then Edge but she fly is at good speed and is less twitchy then Edge.
Just like with Edge I like to fly with CG way back. Now days, when I set up plane I make it first little tail heavy and go slowly forward from that. It's more obvious for Me (looking at the ship reactions) when I passed neutral point and getting to desired stability. when I go other way around I easily get confused when I loose good stability or good signaling. This way all My planes are signaling lift very well. I understand problem with inertia but I don't think 10oz even 12oz plane would be affected that much. Heavy wing tips is a obvious problem on DLG plane yet ballance must be achieved between performance and durability. Wing with tip thorn off wont signal anything.
Peace!

64g is 150 euro more for 10m then 80g so there is extra cost. Can You shoot Me a link where I can get Vlad stuff. Looking at pic of finished product I don't really like it but that maybe because pic only. I didn't handle this thing yet.
