1/4 scale piper L4 grasshopper covering

Howdy, this fall I want to cover this plane with olive drab and invasion stripes. I have never used olive drab before and would like to use the simulated fabric stuff (if it comes that way).

So my question is (finally)......... what do I use?

Oh yeah, does fabric type covering accept stripes, decals ect. on account of its "texture"?

solar-tex is good. I prefer the fabric sold by BalsaUsa.com. Decals and stickers will stick, but they're shiny unless you spray the whole thing with flat Polyurethane--and even then they don't have the fabric texture.

A lot of folks paint markings on fabric because it looks better.

Dont use rustoleum OD. Got burned by that. Its more of a forest green when all is done. Has anybody tried latex paint on solartex or any other fabric. I'm thinking of trying that on my busa cub. Its gonna be covered with koverall.

I have an 1/4 scale (Bud Nosen) L-4 with the Solartex fabric. It came out very nice. I used testors Masters spray paint in olive drab.. it is nearly Identical to the Solartex. I originally did mine in invasion colors, the coverite I used sagged so bad I had to replace it. The 2nd time around I used 1942 (Torch operation) invasion color.. Star with Yellow circle and on the L4 a Yellow cowl.

I you are using SOLARTEX you can get it already in the olive drab color. I built an L4 a few years ago a 1/4 scale and used the solartex fabric which by the way is my favorite covering for older scale planes. I used monocoat trim material for the invasion strips and then sprayed the entire build with flat polyurethane. It was a good looking plane and after I flew it for several years sold it. Slartex is the way to go and as they recomend spraying it with polyurthane.

Fred is correct.. you really don't have to seal it. I ended up spraying the whole plane because the olive drab that was sprayed on some of the frames did not match the solartex exactly.
