Hi Tom,
Firstly thanks for the comment , I am new to the RC groups but post a lot on the BERG-GLIDERS BLOG my home club. The top of this mountain (Volksrust,South Africa) is fairly flatish and if carefull you can land . This scratch built glider weighs 16kg... yeah we catch it all the time and side arm discuss launch it. It has only flown once prior to a thunder storm for 8 minutes , hopefully get to the slope again in August and do flight 2 ,BTW it flies great.
Regards Mike

With the looks of some of those clouds, you may be going home.
That's quite something to handlaunch. I saw an older gentleman hand launch a plane with nearly the same span (below)

Interesting shot of grandpa hand launghing his 12 ft(4mtr) jet aircraft and with it running twin turbines more than enough power to clear the trees. lol
Now I just ask myself ...how many bars to inflate the fuselage and should I use Helium(safe and inert or Hydrogen cheap but flammable).
The Big DG weighs 16kg or about 35 pounds and is 8mtrs in span , needs about 35km wind for a safe launch but flies very realistic , ask Grandpa to buzz me , he can join our launching team.. thanks for the photo.

He'd be a good guy to have on your team. He single handedly can launch a plane that took 2 guys from your team.

I handlaunch most of my planes, being mostly a builder of roughly 1m span planes, but have not flown gliders.
I assume you lauch steeply downward into a 35km/h wind, which is why you need a steep hill?

More recently than Grandpa's launch, I had to straighten out a lauch that did go up as if it had helium in the fuse. Actually that Cox jet would be an excellent sailplane without the added weight of motors/batt. It's a real floater as it is now.

Hi Bill,
The Granpa photo had me going for awhile but do the math.. he is holding it up without effort is about to launch the (inflatable kite)for want of a better description. The line is held by the kid under the no parking sign ...no sign of a radio anywhere, so we are not comparing apples to banana,s here are we??. Anyway I would like to stick to big gliders as the main topic of this blog.
Mike
PS have you ever built a ME 262 (your avatar)we have the only night fighter version in existance, here in S.A. fitted with radar elements on its nose. There was talk of it being restored to flying condition , a rare bird indeed.
PSS I have only started dabbling in the dark electric arts , but would love to build a slope/edf combo large A10 thunderbolt (Warty)with fans to make the right noise...maybe oneday.
