My bad. I guess I knew that. I think I've decided to do them (retracts) on this one also. So many projects, I forget where I'm at on reading these different threads.

We all have many projects. I had to type mine into my iPhone so I can concentrate on them one at a time. I'm going to have a busy winter.

Anyone know where I can get the gray Navy airframe (no electronics) in the US? Banana and Nitro are (of course) out of stock.

I was told a few weeks back that BH had several of them in carton destined for the US. This message came from the factory directly. Who knows really.....

Maybe. They have been blowing through their stock of FMS stuff rather quickly so they may have another load coming. Hope so anyway. I don't know if others have noticed but it's looking like Nitro isn't going to stock FMS any longer. They've gone out of stock on almost everything FMS and it doesn't look like they're restocking. Perhaps this explains BH's price hiking.

OK, more convinced than ever. Did you use shims under the nozzles, or cut em at an angle, to re-position?

I cut them at about 15 degree angles. Then epoxied them flush. I flew with ERH a few weeks ago and his took off so much better than mine.

nozzles (and rudder)

I cut from the bottom up at (I'm estimating) about 15 degrees or so. Then I epoxied them closed and put tape along the joint as a reinforcement.

Thought I'd post a pic of the rudder as well. Put the servo at the aft end of the dorsal avionics hatch and punched the push-rod through the foam to the rudder, which has Great Planes medium pivot point hinges. Yes there's all kinds of touch-up paint on this bird...

nozzles

It does fly better with the mod (in the one flight I have on it since). The take off was a lot more scale, using a more normal amount of runway (maybe 80').

I slowed to near stall speed (flaps up and into the wind) and then gunned the throttle. No violent nose pitch up as was the case before. Flaps would tend to counter the pitch up so I didn't want that to disguise any effect the nozzles.

And for some reason (may not have anything to do with the nozzles) but I had a great power-on landing (flaps down). One of the best and slowest I've had in an F-4.

Overall, I'm pretty pleased with it.

Went flying at my club today. Had three great flights and landings with the F-4.
Had a little trouble slowing it down on rollout though. (4000mah batts make for hot rollouts.) Very happy with my landing gear.

Will- what struts did you use?

I'm finishing my retract mods this week (just need to pickup a 12" servo extension at the LHS). Looking for strut suggestions.
