V-Tail Xplorer Completed

I completed the assembly of my new V-Tail today, adjusted the control settings, and balanced it. As assembled - with JR 368s for the tail, 3421s for the flaps, and 168s for the ailerons, a Spectrum 700 receiver, a
Relion 2-cell 2600 lith-ion battery with a Castle regulator, a battery-checker, and a McCann nose skeg - I had to take out the switch to get it balanced near 108. If I could figure out how, I'd like to remove some of the lead shot that was installed in the nose at the factory, so that I could reinstall the switch. I don't like to add weight to the tail, but may have to.

All up weight (on my new digital scale) was 67.5 ounces.

Just for the record, Tuan now has some small nose art on his primary X. It's a kill marking! (Go ahead, Tuan...shoot a photo and post it!)

Rick, that made me crack up. Awesome man! I will have to have someone make up a set of shark teeth for me .

Here's the "improved" nose with score keeping sticker compliments of Mike Lee!

In case someone asks, I replaced the original skeg with this one as this one has less tendency to bounce in the hard packed dirt. Don't know if it is AMA legal or not, but it works great though.

sorry for the dumb question... (i don't have time to browse entire thread..)
what those skeg are supposed to do? At least in EU, any protrusion under nose/wing/tail is not allowed, so i think it wouldn't be legal in F3J competitions.. am i right?

The skeg is supposed to stop the plane from a ground slide. It is allowed in the USA, but not in any FAI competitions. Search for the word skeg here on rcgroups. There are numerous threads/debates dedicated to the subject.

Don't listen to him. The skeg is a new aerodynamic improvment that actually makes the planes lighter and reduces drag.

The guys in Europe just don't get it so they refuse to use them....

How are you guys routing the antenna? I assume most extend it and bring it out at the tail?

Thanks, Target

Target,

That's the way I did mine. I added exactly 1/2 the length and only have about 6" out the bottom of the fin.

Got it, thank you.

On my F3F planes, I also have had no problems when extending the stock antenna length.
