piPlane (Because It's Round)
A few people have showed an interest in my little round UFO-type (thanks GPW!), so here is a guick build-guide.
This is a really fun plane to throw in the back of the car to fly practically anywhere.
1. Cut an 18-inch diameter disc from Bluecor.
2. Cut and hinge elevons with Scotch tape (over-under method).
3. Cut upper fuselage from Bluecor.
4. Cut and hinge rudder with Scotch tape (over-under method).
5. Glue upper fuselage onto disc.
6. Mount elevon servos.
7. Mount receiver.
8. Mount rudder servo.
9. Cut lower fuselage from Bluecor.
!0. Glue lower fuselage onto disc.
11. Mount motor to small piece of 1/32 ply. I used 1.3 X 1.3 inches.
12. Glue motor mount to front of disc.
13. Mount ESC on right side of lower fuselage using hook and loop (Velcro).
14. Install control linkages.
15. Adjust throws for at least 30 degrees travel each direction (45 or more, if you dare).
16. Attach battery to lower left fuselage (opposite the ESC) using hook and loop.
17. Balance at 25%.
18. Go fly !

tiny receiver (I like Berg 4L or Spektrum 6100E)
tiny ESC (CC TB-6 or TB-9)
tiny battery (2S 300 to 620 LiPoly)
Yes, you can add landing gear; I prefer to save the weight

I have a question or two.
If you have elevons on it, whats the rudder for?
In the side view the elevons are drooped. Is this to make it like a slowfly highlift airfoil for slow flight?
I thought anything that had elevons neede a small amount of reflex (up) in the elevons.
Great design and fun I bet.
If you had the time, could you give us a heads up on how you made and mounted your LED'S ????

Elevons only control pitch and roll. The rudder controls the yaw axis.
The elevons are drooped because they got knocked around during transport. They are slightly up when flying.
For the lights, I tap off +5V and - (ground) from the receiver, and run two wires all the places I want lights. Solder the LED (with a 100 ohm 1/8 watt resistor) between the two (observing proper polarity), and tape them down. See photos.
P.S. Blinking LEDs don't need the resistor.

the rudder turns the plane, but the elevons roll to the outside of the turn
so that the wings stay level during the turn: can make for a very tight turn.

That is a very nice, controlled-flying video. Congratulations on a good flying, fun plane! Thank you for putting it up for all of us.
*EDIT* The shape of the fuse in the video looked kind of like a bean. The flying bean!

So what your saying is the plane will fly with elevons only? And you
just use the rudder for flat turns?

Yes, all the LEDs are powered by the receiver 5 Volts. I don't have a spare channel on this one, so I just tapped the rudder channel connector by soldering the wires to the pins under the servo connector. You could use a Y-connector, but I was trying to save weight.
I did not say I use the rudder only for flat turns. I said it is used for yaw. That includes any time you want to move the nose left or right. Comes in really handy while hovering. Very effective in harrier, too. Yes, you can fly the plane with elevons only, but I would rather have rudder and elevator than no rudder and elevons. To each his own, I guess.

This is completely awesome.. thanks for posting. I do have one quesiton about hinging... what exactly is the over/under method? Isnt' that just regular singular sided tape?

slightly technical question.
Got the resistor part and power supply.
1. Do you hook up the led's in series or parallel in the whole circuit. Can't quite see it in the pics?
2. Are the led's rated for a certain voltage/wattage?
4. Love the plane.
