Odd, that advocacy of a higher oil price is a bad thing if the intent is to spawn alternatives and less pollution, but a good thing if the intent is to drill for more oil in protected wilderness.

Not odd. Using govt to explicitly screw with markets by intentionally raising oil prices is one thing, where oil prices go on their own based on other circumstances is a different beast.

Hersch is a credible journalist of considerable renown and his story makes sense.

The senior Democratic leadership appears to have made a calculation that Bush/the Republicans are so hopelessly ideological and inclined to war and force at every opportunity that it's better to try and replace them than hold them accountable by oversight. The Democratic solution seems to be, let Bush get away with aggression and murder and mayhem and stew in his own incompetent juices and look bad. The Democrat's don't want to rock the boat and appear soft on terror, they want to win the 2008 elections and fix the problem by wholesale replacement of the whole the stinking brood.

I don't agree. Evil should be confronted.

I also shake my head at some of the quotes. We have US officials calmly talking about their plans for 'extrajudicial killings'. My government is populated by murderers.

They've added an asterisk to the Declaration and Constitution: "* these documents only apply to American citizens, the Declaration's statements referenceng 'all men' was a typo. And BTW we can make exceptions for American citzens too".

The noble concepts espoused by the Declaration and Constitution are dying, killed by the leaders of the US and those who do not object.

Fortunately we have Libertarians speaking out on the aspects of the Republic you think are dying. How many are projected to be elected to the Presidency/Congress?
