Jim,
Any new news on your build ?
I'm watching with interest.
What RimFire's are those? 28-30-750?
I really like the design and difference of this craft.

Hey Ric, the Rimfires are 28-26-1000
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXLWT2&P=0

I spun them up with a single Phoenix 25A and was getting about total 200W with APC 9x4.7SF props. I'll probably switch to 9x6SF to make sure I have enough speed on tap. (I'm not sure that would look scale though , do Petrodactyls fly at 50 mph? I haven't seen one in person )

I just finishing up the sheeting on the wing. The fuse is finished. Then I need to start sanding and the radio install and covering. I'm keeping the covering simple as I don't really enjoy covering.

I just had to have one of these! It came in last week. I am finishing the framing of a Slowmowatt for night flying then I plan to start this flying reptile.

Has anyone considered covering the "eyes" with red plastic and running an LED off the flight battery for glowing eyes?? I think this may be something I would like to try.

It definately begs for it. I have left overs from my night flying Slo-V.

A word about sheeting.

As other suggested, sand the sheeting at the leading edge of hte wing so it has good contact area and less sanding/shaping later. Don't just throw the sheeting on as cut. I think it will look a lot better when finished and will be stronger. I'll see if I can shoot some pictures.

The inside of the head is covered with a mylar reflective film, so when the
sun shines on it, it looks like it's glowing, so I didn't need a light in it.

Thanks RalphV
I could not tell from the picture. I guess it will depend on what I find for red plastic. I was thinking an LED hooked up to the balancing tap of a Lipo battery would do the trick. I do like the paint scheme you use on the head of your 'dact.

Did you just iron it on or did you glue it?

I ironed it on, it was a little tricky. I then cut up some white trim sheet to make the
white pinstripe to cover over the seem, I then put a dot of glue on the pinstripe
where they make a point so the pinstripe wouldn't come off.

More progress

Not much left to glue. Just a little more sanding and some filler and I'll be ready to cover.

Hi All,
My Pterodactyl is slowly taking shape. I am up to covering in the wing leading and trailing edges. Fuse is finished ready to mount servos. This is truely a work of art and looking forward to seeing it fly here Down Under. Keep up the good work. Thanks for the build thread , hopefully it will encourage others to build. Well done Ron on a great design.
