Agreed, it is so unique that it IS a must have.
I am definately buying one. I just have to save some cash. $125 is a bit steep for the budget right now.

Trailing edge is a medium balsa I think. It's definitely not light balsa or light ply.

I've orderd the kit! I've orderd Atlas 2308/26 motors with APC 6x5.5 props. I've got 2 Phoenix 25s and a new Thunder Power 2100 Prolite. Next, servos .... probably HS45HBs for the elevator and HS65MGs. for the ailerons.

Any other suggestions????? Thanks

Hi, Jim

I recieved my kit last week, but with the overtime at work I wasn't
able to start on it until this week. I'm just about ready for covering.
I hope to have it covered by Sunday night so I can test fly it on Monday.
The leading edge is a little tricky, especialy the inner wing section.
if you have any questions ask away, I did take a few pictures as I went
I'll post some if you would like. Here is a picture after the second day of
building. I liked this one so much I ordered the 80" one, got shipped today.
Good luck with your build.

enjoy the picture

Wow, that went together fast! Welcome to RCGroups!
I would enjoy seeing more pictures.

Did you get a chance to cover it and take it up?

52" Pterodactyl

Hi, Jim

I didn't get a chance to fly it yet due to poor weather conditions.
I have it covered in transparent covering, but waiting for better weather
conditions to get some good outside pictures of it, I added servo doors,
to make it easier to set, and adjust the servo arms. I also added some 1/16"
balsa to the trailing edge of the wing to eliminate that step where the ends
of the trailing edge meets the ribs, I just sanded it to taper into the lazer
cut trailing edge pieces, if you look close at the last picture you can see
where it feathers out about half way to the next rib from the ends of the
trailing edge of the wing where the ailerons meet. I'm using a 4/ch reciever
so I will set the differential in the ailerons by setting the servo arms forward
of center, that way I get more up than down on the travel of the ailerons,
thats how we used to do it befor computer radios. Here are a few pictures.
as soon as the weather clears up I'll send more pictures. Oh yah my 80" kit
arrived, and as soon as the hardware arrives I'm going to get started on it.
all the hardware I ordered is due the 11th, and 12th, can't wait! I hope the
weather clears up so I can at least fly while I'm waiting.

Thanks, Rob

I did make a few other changes, but you all have to wait for better
weather, and I'll show you's some better pictures.

Thanks

Ralph, Your covering job is beautiful! What did you use?
Could we see some close-ups of the servo door hinges, and the 1/16 taper improver stock you added? Could you possibly list your after kit purchases (motors, servos, ESCs, extensions, battery, etc. ? That would be very helpful to all future builders as this is a build log.

Again, If it flys as great as it looks ..... you have a winner!!!!

I normally don't comment on other vendors threads... but this certainly deserves one. This has got to be one of the coolest laser cut products out there!

Ralph,

Very nice, I wish I could get my covering like that....

Only one question: What happened to the head ornamentation? It looks a bit naked without something...

My only advice for the first flight is to pay strict attention to the CG and also keep the throws on the elevators down...
