Sig 2m Riser, what motor?

I have got half way thorugh building a Sig Riser (the 2 metre version) and decided I don't want to bother wiht the bungee any more (not my first sailplane!) Been thinking of stepping into electrics, so would like to electrify this one, what is the best set up? I need something cheap, light and reliable (of course!

Endoplasma 16T, 30Amp ESC, MA 3:1 box, Aeronaut 12x9 folder, 8xpractically anything cells.. 800 to 1300 are good for climb and low weight.
You WILL be happy!

I agree on the endo - great little motor for 2m jobs.

Let me know how you like that Riser - I am thinking about it for my next sailplane project. I like that Filip really well also though!?!?!

Thanks, is that a concentric gearbox, because I don't thnk I can fit an offeset one in the nose.

The Riser is a decent enough 'old fashioned' kit - most of the parts are printed on the wood and need cutting out, ony the wing ribs are ready cut.

I like the MP Jet gearboxes - They are good to about 300 watts or so. Good for what you are doing. They have a 3.33 and a 3.8. Either would be good. Can't beat that for $23 bucks.

I don't, but John Emms from Puffin Models might. He hangs around here a bit.

Dave at Aircraft-World is great. Worldwide shipping is only US $2.50 can't beat that.

Here's another vote for the Endo with an MPJet 3.8:1 planetary box, 8-CP1300 cells and a 12/9 or a 13/8 prop.

Here in the U.S. you can get the Endo at Tower Hobbies ($19.99) and the rest at Hobby Lobby.

I did get my gearbox from David at Aircraft-World (cheaper, too!) because Hobby Lobby was out of stock.

electrifying a Riser

I built one and after trying it on a highstart, I made a pylon to mount a motor over the wing. I flew it with a 400 long can and a 3/1 gearbox, with an 11- 5,5, then with a jeti 30-3, both with 10 cells. It is pretty light, and went straight up with the Jeti and 10-1250 scr's. I have a smaller wing also. It is a pretty nice flying plane and was short money for the kit. I poly-fiberglassed mine too. Ill look for some pictures.

riser with "modular pod"

This is sort of stock. The pod is held on with elastics, just like the wing Pretty retro, huh? The wing is a 66" one from a Sterling Taylorcraft kit with a coiuple extra bays and polyhedral. I have te stock wing too. Weight is over or under 3 lbs, depending on the cells.

I used 1400 AE's, 1100 HECELLS 10x 2 packs in parallel, and the 1250 SCR's. I have had a lot of trouble with the BEC ESC and the 10 cells with brushed motors. The Jeti motor and non-bec 40 amp gold label ESC perform flawlessly
