Another new GWS plane?

Has anyone else noticed this on the GWS website? Looks kinda interesting. Heck of a lot neater than the fish or the buggy thing.http://www.gws.com.tw/english/product/airfly/f3a.htm

Seems as though it only comes in a 400 powered version.

That looks nice, that I would be willing to buy. It looks like it would be a nice, cheap pattern plane.

That is a nice looking plane. Seems like the sp400 would be overkill though.

At 16.9 oz with a sp400 and an 8 cell 600ae pak, this plane prob only weighs around 8 oz without motor and batt.

It could actualy fly with a ips at that weight, and be pretty darn aerobatic on a 300 with less motor weight and needing less battery weight too.

It would be a prime canditate for a 3s pak of the new high output 2000 liths that are supposed to be coming out, with a deep ratio 300c and a 9x7. Good vertical and 25 minute flights!

It seems like it should have a longer tail moment to be really for better "flying on rails" flying.

I'd be willing to give it a shot if GWS keeps their pricing the same as their other stuff.

Did ya'll check out the wing loading? 1oz/sq foot? that doesn't seem right does it?

It also looks like it might be ready for retracts too.

If you do the math, it comes out to 9.5oz/Sq foot. Maybe they were trying to put 10?

Ladies and Gents:

It's almost exactly like the SPORTY from WATTAGE which my Buddy, Gerry (a.k.a, SIMANO) has and he retired it due to the short coupled FUSE and wing designed which made it very hard to handle in the air and fipped on you really fast. Of course the worse was the weak 280 motor and it was hardly anything worth the time. It was a very bad choice for a aileron trainer which he bought.

Hopefully, this design would fly better with that kind of power!

Horrible choice as a trainer. It's a sport plane aka "flys hot"

With EPS350 10.8V 9.9amps 562g! Vertical Take off!

We just did some modification and tested with many props to fine out the best match props for GWS EPS-300C.

With EPS-300C C-gears and EP9050 prop, this lady is HOT!
At 8.4V 7amps 388g. 9.6V 8.5amps 485g.

But with EPS350 at 10.8V 9.9amps even up to 562g! However, we do not recommance to do so, may be motor life become very short!? need more time to check out how long the motor can run?

We try this new combination on the GWS mini F3A ( FORMOSA )
That makes her becomes a HOT Baby! Not too bad, elegant but wild!

GWS RD is busy to figure out what will be best combo to this mini F3A for flyers.

I guess many GWS WW-II airplanes also can vetical take off with this EPS350 unit!

If you have any opinion about her, pls let us know ASAP. The tooling was started.

USA flyers should able to get this kit from LHS before end of May!

Tooling was started a few weeks ago, wish we can see the test mode foam pcs at early~mid of March.

For instruction manual and color box artwork...., we expect to ship them out from Taiwan at mid~late April, 2003.

I don't think it's fair to start comparing it to a plane from a totally different manufacturer. The Formosa will likely not be any more suitable as a aileron trainer than the Sporty is. The E-Starter should be good for that.

Mr. Lin, don't worry, you get the EPS350's to us and we WILL test how long they last with 10.8 volts. And more!

Couldn't help but notice that a couple of people mentioned installing a smaller power unit, maybe even an IPS, instead of the usual cry for "more power".

Short fuse for F3A groove

I have to agree with Paul's comment. The seemingly recurring problem with most "mini" pattern planes released is they are too close-coupled to "groove" well. Anyone who has flown a true pattern ship will attest to how "locked-on" they feel in flight. The long fuselage contributes greatly to that feel. Unless the website's photos are just misleading due to the angle of the photos, I'd have to say the Formosa will have the same problem. It appears more of a sport design than pattern. Electric sport designs are abundant, serious electric pattern designs aren't, especially at this size range.
Just my opinion. It'll likely sell anyway.
