Three "reasons" I can come-up for adding such links:

1. It makes this thread more useful, so when people want to do "1 stop shopping" for information they will more likely look here first (and so gain "view counts" for what turns out to eventually be posts elsewhere, as well as that elsewhere also gaining "view counts". So both sites gain "view counts".).

2. Wikis in some sense are not direct head-to-head competition: they tend to give more summarized/distilled background information, whereas the forums are the place to go to ask questions and get a collection of answers of different people.

3. Other wikis and summary-type threads will post links both to rcgroups and elsewhere. 3 examples:

* http://www.eflightwiki.com/eflightwi...tle=HoneyBeeFP
Article on Honey Bee FP
* http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=414478
A summary thread of threads on the Shogun

A summary web page for the Shogun

llama, I totally hear you. I'm not sure our hosts will see it the same way though. Maybe I'm being too courteous...but I'd rather err on that side. I would like this thread to stay sticky as long as possible...

My other concern is that this is a slippery slope. This post was conceived as a "quick guide", but once I start adding links to other forums, wikis, blogs, etc...before you know it...it becomes a link forest like www.collectivepitch.com.

However...the Newbies Helicopters Guide is the best one-page guide I've seen. And that wiki has lots of links back to RCG, so it is "RCG friendly". If no one has any objections, I'll link that guide in this post. If anyone can point to a better "newbie guide", I'll link that instead. OK?

Edited the first post:
- added more radio manuals
- moved the lists of links to the end of the post
- added a note about products in the EHBG being out-of-date

Is there any way to make the sticky title of this thread RED so it is easily seen by new comers? That would be a BIG help. I'm sure a lot of them don't even "see" it even though it is near the top of the page. Just trying to contribute.

How about at least all the authors change the tag to "ALERT" at last that is read.. and 3 red alerts at the top call attention.

Edited the first post:
- added "Other Resources" to the end of the post

Re: emphasizing the stickies, another color sounds good to me if the forum supports it and the mods think it is a good idea. No big deal. IMO it's good enough that the stickies are at the top of the list. I hesitate to use the "Alert" tag because it lessens the effect for alerts about something truly important/dangerous, like the Xtreme plastic blades recall...

I just bought a walkera 4#3 from ultimaterchobby.com, the helicopter is amazing, but tricky to fly! Thanks for the help guys, this will make flying much more fun!! I think I am going to purchase the falcon from the same sight, what do you guys think? Would it make a good choice for a beginner?
