Hopefully this will cut down on all the questions that have already been answered over and over and over again!!

Spinup.. I would suggest you edit the title of this thread to...

New to helicopters? How to find answers? A quick guide...

Put them near the bottom of your first post spinup... (since they are heli specific)... but they should be there! 3 popular models.

Once this thread is done.. a moderator should delete all our add on posts and lock it?

Thanks Slyster. I agree with that we need a "first helicopter" post. It seems like every time the question is asked, it gets messy...some guys just answer with what they have, some attack what others have, some take it off topic entirely... I think it's hard for a beginner to find what really matters in a thread like that one.

I think we need a fresh post for this. Something that clearly lists the different types of helis, where they can fly, what you can learn with them. I have a few ideas. I'll take a crack at this and maybe we can update it together?

Nice work nuttcaze! I hadn't seen those before.

IMO these videos should be linked from the first post of the active megathreads for these helis. The HBFP and HBK2 threads are in this forum. Belt CP thread is in the Mini Helis forum.

This post is more of a general guide. If I add videos, it would get messy very fast. There dozens of videos for each heli on youtube. For example, subzzzzzzzero also did a King2 series with lots of videos.

so...I think the experts in each heli-specific megathread should decide which videos get special attention, in the first post of those threads. Does that make sense to you guys?

-Jeff

ps I considered linking the Finless "Heli Skills 101" videos here, since they cover general skills and techniques...but they live on another forum...is that bad netiquette? Most guys seem to find them anyway...

Maybe I'll update it to "How to find micro heli answers...". This info is for everyone though, not just newbies.

Nooooooooooo! This thread has to remain unlocked and "alive" so we can keep updating it with new helicopters, new megathreads, and great ideas like a "first helicopter" post.

The "add on posts" are fine. If you want the guide only, just read the first post. If you want to see how it came together, read the rest of the posts. It's like a forum and a wiki rolled into one. Best of both worlds.

keep in mind, if this post grows too big people will not bother looking through it just like the HBFP owners thread, whats the thing they say most? "the thread is too long for me to sit and read it all". So people who look at this will want answers on the FIRST page, beyond that they just start a new thread and ask the same questions over and over. So I'm thinking that as a new item is added the thread starter should just update his first thread with that new info so it's all right there

Exactly. The first post is all that matters for most folks. The rest of the posts are just for those of us who want to discuss any changes to that first post.

I just edited the second post in this thread to make that clear.

It sure would be nice if the first post in the "megathread" for each heli was updated regularly too, but that is up to the guys who started those threads...

Two other resources that I found useful:

1. Radd's method (sorry, I forgot the link) for learning to hover anything faster than a coax

2. The helicopter page of the Eflight wiki:
http://www.eflightwiki.com/eflightwi...al:Helicopters

Especially the pages for:
a. Newbies: http://www.eflightwiki.com/eflightwi...licopter_Guide

b. HBFP: http://www.eflightwiki.com/eflightwi...tle=HoneyBeeFP

I hesitate to add links to other forums and wikis...maybe in a normal post...but it seems like bad etiquette for a sticky? I mean, other forums and wikis are "competing" with RCGroups for our attention...

Radds is a "classic" though. I was thinking of adding some links to general resources at the end of this post. I'll be sure to include Radds in there.

Also, I just added a couple more heli manuals (Walkera 52, Hornet) and a few radio manuals.

I think specific wikis should be posted in the first thread of that heli's owners thread....

Jeff,
I have been using this radio in 72 mhz for years(Airtronics RD 8000) , and for the last year as a heli radio. It's a pretty darn good heli raido with 8 channels and not that expensive either. Here is the link to the manual in case you want to add. http://www.airtronics.net/manual/RDS8000.pdf

Hmmm... On the one hand, I don't want to favor any product in this post. On the other hand, the Airtronics radios are very rarely mentioned in this forum, so I don't know how many people will care about that manual. To be fair, I guess the Futaba radios aren't mentioned much either, compared to the Spektrums...

What to do...

1) I could add this one, but then I should also add the Hitec radios, and then someone will probably mention another one...

2) Or I could remove the radios entirely, and avoid any favoritism...

What do you guys think? I'm leaning towards #1, unless a bunch of other radios are mentioned...
