Looks frickin awesome, Jason. I LOVE retracts, and always wanted to put one in a scale soarer. I tell you, it's just plane torture reading this thread. I know it won't be any good for me, but I still like the way it looks. Kinda like Pamela Anderson - she's hot, but I've already told her "babe, it ain't happenin' - you're no good for me". She's not accepting....

Re: #58
The vertical leg of the triangle lines up with the axel. The axel is in front of the leading edge and well ahead of the CG. Some nose over is inevitable. Hopefully it won’t be a problem.
Off topic/ sorry for the hijack: I thought the stock tow release was clever, but I wanted something sturdier. The included rudder pull-pull arm was too long, so one was fabricated out of a standard horn. The tow release and spoiler are on the same channel. Tow release opens at half throttle (channel 3) before the spoilers start to open. Full stick deploys spoilers and some inconsequential over travel on the release. UPS says the last servos should arrive tomorrow. I hope to undertake her maiden flight on the slope in the next week or so (wind direction and strength permitting naturally). wds Wow dude looks sweet, great work. How much extra weight did you have to add to get the CofG right?
I have added a mod to my retract servo, if you look on the video you'll see 2 10 x 10mm blocks glued to eather side of the retract servo as there was to much play for'n'aft as the wheel came up and down. How is yours??? |

Jason,
I have little or no rocking of my retract servo, so no modifications were necessary. The retract mechanism has a nice over-center lock feature, so the servo is only under load during deployment and retraction. I need to do something similar to reinforce the rudder servo though. It is under tension from the pull-pull and needs some help. CG: I haven’t gotten there yet. Still need to install the canopy, and 5-cell 600mAh Rx pack. If/when more weight is necessary for balance, I’ll add more birdshot and glue up front. I’ll post that info when I get there. Bill |

What about putting a bigger battery in? That way you'll have useful weight rather than dead weight-only an idea.

Just a heads up to anyone looking at getting one of these. AK models (ak-models.com)
has a pre-order for the Ventus at $125 and 50% off shipping this weekend. I just ordered one and shipping was free? According to the site they are suppose to arrive 6/29 so they may already be in stock. Cheaper than raidentech and much better shipping rates(from dealing with them in the past)Darren |

Ok. Alittle more work went on last night as the Wife and kids have gone away for afew days to see the Grandparents.
I started the night buy finishing the Elevator. The remaining of this part was done as per the instruction. The servo cover with the servo glued inplace where screwed to the fin using 4 selftapping screws. I then took the screws out and wicked into the screw holes alittle thin CA+. When the CA+ has set this will give the screws something hard to bit down on. Next up was alittle hard for me as I had planned on not using the hardware that come with the kit as I don't like the quality of the parts. I was going to use Du-bro where every I could get away with it but not the case with the elevator links. So in protest I used the clevis's and rod suppied.....

yes mate it has been damm colded, wet and windy. I mainly fly slope down the Bass Coast, there is a hill for every direction of wind and when the warmer weather is here the thermals are big and strong. For the first few flights of my Ventus I will be tapeing the gear doors shut and slope soaring it. Once I an happy with the balance and trim of my Ventus then I will use it of Eletric Aerotow only. |

Rudder
While I was working on the elevator I managed to start on the rudder also. Here once again I used the rudder horns from the kit but my pull-pull set-up is made from the E-Flite micro pull-pull system. The wire that you get with the CMPro kit is rather large and heavy for what you are using it for, the wire that comes with the E-Flite kit is light and thin and is more that strong enough to handle the job.

Canopy - Cockpit.
Well the building of the fuze is almost complete, time to move onto the canopy - cockpit...
My CMPro Discus I build 1.5yrs ago I just wacked togeather to get it in the air ASAP. One of my biggest mistakes was not spending the time in making the cockpit and canopy fit alittle better, so this time i'm going to take alittle more care with my Ventus and spend alittle extra time in getting it right... First off you need to trim the ABS cockpit to sit on the canopy rail. I then took my time and cut'n'sanded to canopy to fit. Note, cut the canopy over sized and trim to fit. Before glueing the caonpy onto the cockpit I added to instrument panel sticker and painted around the canopy rail Mid Grey. |

Jason, I know you're going to say no it doesn't, but that right side rudder wire looks to be impinging on the elevator(?) servo arm? But yes the layout looks very neat and tiday.

Hi Jason,
Instead off cutting and sanding your canopy scrape the blade of your nice sharp knife across the edge off the canopy. The plastic will peel off in very fine shavings.A little more subtl than cutting and sanding. If you can do without the sanding and just scrape the edge of the canopy will stay clear.
