One possibility might be to put a servo in each wing connected to the air brakes so you get a nearly gap-free linkage.
The white plastic thing connecting the push rod in the body, I think is not so good. It is a little backlash. I have now cut off the nose of my plane. I've turned the motor shaft to the engine and now I'll make an adapter plate to the engine mount. Adapter plate will be glued to the hole in the nose. We turn the motor shaft so the engine mount should be at the front, otherwise it is a bit into the nose and becomes less stable, especially if you happen to make a landing on the nose.
