AX is now ready to fly.
Very docile, and climbs like a missile. One thing on this model is the finishing of airfoil myth. I choose any HQ, that’s looks like good for the kind of model, no complicated calculations, no any theory. Just use the airfoil. The result was very good and the model is a dream to fly. Hope you like it. Photos from Leonardo and my good friend Zé OVO. Cebola Brazil |

OK, tell us about the winglets.
Are they just "looks about right" or have you done some kind of testing to see their effectiveness? I have been thinking about setting up a test stand that would measure drag and lift of a mounted airfoil section, similar to the thrust stands you see here for measuring static thrust, but more sensitive, using a small wind tunnel for measuring the effectiveness of different winglet designs.. ..a |

Hi Andy
About the winglets, I decide to use because I never see any better solution for wingtips. Normally this part of model, nobody cares, or is a simple balsa block carved in a smart shape, using the airfoil has reference. Some facts: Despite low aspect ratio, Ax performs a very good glide ratio, better than my Hyperbolic Lady, behaves very reliable on tight turns in small thermals, and keeps a straight path, like a locomotive on Track. I realize that is a good solution, and I can see a big difference in flight characteristics. I know that this subject is very discussable, mainly because I did not use any theory, or aerodynamically resource to design the winglets. Cebola Brazil |
