My new FPV ground station and first flight with new OSD

I have just finished my new ground station. I found out it was much better controlling the plane from my room due to multiple reasons:

- I don't have to carry all my gear to the field
- I can use monitors instead of googles - the sun shining into the monitor is
no longer a problem
- I can sit on my chair - much better comfort

Enough talking, here is some pictures:

For more information, look at http://skagmo.com/fpv.htm

This is my latest video. This flight was really nerve-wrecking!

First FPV flight with OSD and new ground station (9 min 22 sec)

The TSII will be a much more stable platform with pan/tilt and a CPD4 for extra stabilisation.

Hope you like it!

Sweet setup! I'd love to do it from my home too but I live in an apartment so it's not doable for me as there are too many buildings blocking signals....

I would love to just setup a bungee launcher on my roof and launch from inside and land into a net outside my window.

Thanks! Haha, I've thought about a bungee launcher myself. Especially launching the plane vertically. That way you could take off practically everywhere. For landing you could use a parachute - works pretty well. Just make sure it deploys when you start diving towards your roof...

An other option would be a 3D model capable of hovering. Just hover your plane outside your window and grab it with your hand...

Ok, ok, I took it a little too far.

Very good! It is not often that I watch a complete FPV video but yours held my interest for the whole flight. I noticed that on return you appeared to have more video receiver dropouts. Is it possible that the video TX antenna is near enough to some wires or metal such that it is becoming a little directional?

There's only one thing missing....

Yeap - You guessed it!

That's very right Mike. The transmitter antenna was placed on the tail, so the whole body of the plane came in the way when I was heading home. In addition my friend who was pointing the antenna did a mediocre job. I was flying more to the east on the way home as well, so there was a lot more trees between the transmitter and receiver.
As a ham you probably know a 1W 23cm ATV-transmitter is capable of doing a lot more than this, and I can guarantee you I will go a lot further as well - just need to make a simple autopilot and improve some other stuff.
I did a high altitude balloon project a year ago, and reached nearly 80km with a 600mW 2.4GHz video transmitter. The receiver antenna was a 25 dBi parabolic antenna though, and the image was very bad at this distance - probably too bad to fly with.

Hahaha Dimitris, that made me laugh... I was waiting for you to mention a tracking antenna. This time a friend of mine was my "antenna tracker". He didn't function as well as a microcontroller and two servo's though. Especially on the way home as you can see. I'm beginning to see the use for a tracker now, but I will not promise anything. Gotta be pretty patient for that one I'll make a rudder home autopilot first, and then the tracker.
