Dihedral

Just a little question about Dihedral, a friend of mine "gjensen" who posts quite a bit on this group noticed that my beaver had very little dihedral.

on the Maiden flight we thought this might be a big issue, it tures out that with my near scale dihedral the beaver still flew very stable !!! has anyone else ever tried to set it more to scale then what GWS calls for ???

Any comments would be great !!!

oh here's another picture of my beaver...

Thanks,

Sam

OK everyone. All together now......
"NICE BEAVER!!!!!"

Sam has my user ID wrong - its Grejen.
Anyway Sam's Beave is very clean. The RCMP colours really suit it well. First flight and landing was sure better than mine. At 13.5 oz with the paint and pinstripping it's on the heavy side but by no means is it difficult. Turn response was fine even with such minimal dihedral.

Nice Beaver.

Less dihedral makes it return to level slightly harder.

My Beaver has less dihedral than the stock setup since I would sacrifice lateral stabilty for lift.

Dihedral

I only have 2.75" of dihedral in mine, it looks a lot like yours, see picture, and it flies just fine. I did try it indoors though and it will not turn well enough in there to fly comfortably. Oh well, I fly out side most of the time anyway. Yours looks real nice, congrats ! ! !Tom

Thanks Sam

That little GWS Beaver is my favorite model. Did you notice it was sitting on skis, as all winter Beavers should. I have 19" foam floats for summer too, and wheels to for when it goes with me on vacation. In your last shot, was that taken recently. I don't see any snow. I thought BC was loaded with the stuff this time of year. Here in NY the snow is up to my knees, it's 24degrees, blowing 18 , and the windchill is 11. It looks balmy where you are. WASSUP !
I took the 300C motor out of mine and went with the 100C unit. It draws less amps and now I can fly with 1500 mah LIon cells for 40 minutes non stop, but I don't. I fly 4, ten minute flights before having to swap out the battery. The 300c drew to many amps for those LIon packs. It still flies great, and is a tad lighter. Mine weighs 12.4 ounces all up now. Glad you liked the picture. Tom

Lucky you

I always think that anything north of the border is cold and snowy, but along the coast you guys have that big blue pond to keep things warm. I envy you, to a point. Enjoy the Beaver, and welcome to the E-Zone. Tom

Here is a picture of my Beaver. I flew it for the first time Saturday. It warmed up to about 8 degrees above zero so I just had to try it out. It has to be the best flying plane I have!

I buggered up the dihedrel though. There were no dimples or marks of any kind on the wings. One wing sits about and inch higher than the other. I just put in full right rudder trim and it flew like a dream. With level elevator, full throttle and it climbs as high as I want. Half and it's totally level flight. Less and it comes down. Don't even need to touch the elevator until touchdown.

I moved the strut bracket, as you can see in the picture, I probably have too much dihedral on the left side now. That shouldn't be hard to fix.

Ah, one of my compatriots!

Bill, I am glad to see that it flies OK and that you like it. Were you using the new 1500 LIon cells we got. What the heck is on her feet, balsa sneekers. Tom
