Any interest in a Laser Cut short kit of Peter Rake's White Monoplane?

Hello All,

I was just looking through my stack of plans for a plane that would be fun and fairly easy/cheap to build that I could fly in my local ball field. I came across a copy of Peter Rake's 1919 White Monoplane for GWS power.

I will be creating the wing ribs, fuselage formers and sides via my laser cutter and am thinking of offering them as a short kit.

Kit would include the the following:

wing ribs
fuse formers
fuse sides
control horns

Price in the $15.00 range.

Cheers,

Mike N

Twmaster,

Is this with Peter's approval?

Mike,
Be very, very careful what you kit or you could find yourself having copyright problems. It's never a bad idea to actually ask the designer and publisher of a plan if they object to you kitting it.

All,
I can understand the confusion since Kurt kits some of my designs. However, these are ALL unpublished designs that Kurt has actually paid to use. NO published design should be kitted without the express permission of both the designer and the publisher of the plan.
The real problems arise, however, when people want the kit but don't have the original plan. Offering them a copy of the original is a recipe for a law suit.

Nevermind....

Sheesh.

All I was going to do was build an airplane for myself and since I would have had the CAD drawings all ready for my laser I thought maybe somebody would like a set of the hard to make parts too.

That's what I get for being a nice guy I guess. Like I am going to get rich selling a few obscure airplane parts at $15.00.

For the record, offering to make a set of parts for a plan is not illegal. If that were the case anyone whom ever sent a set of plans to a cutter would be in trouble.

Remember I did not offer anything more than a few parts, nor am I offering plans.

I apologize if I have offended Peter or anyone else.

Thanks for the input guys.

Mike,
Did I say I was offended? I was just warning you about what might happen. What you have to realise is that that design remains my copyright, and the plan the copyright of Traplet. In all probability, they would give their blessing, as would I, had we been asked.
Absolutely no-one objects to you making your life easier by getting the parts cut, it's the offering them for sale that can cause problems. Remember the fuss when Kurt offered some plans for FREE.

BTW, put me down for two sets. and don't forget the 1 1/2 degrees of upthrust that got left off the plan.

In case it was too 'obscure' this is the White, but the 45" version.
