Body Painting - Type of Paint - Tips - Flaking Off

Are their any cheaper alternatives available "off the shelf" to paint clear
Lexan bodies?

The Kyosho Polyca paint I airbrushed didn't stand up to racing very well,
it's flaking off at the impact areas on the bumpers in big chunks. Did I do
something wrong?

What type of surface prep do you use?

Jeff

um, I think you're supposed to paint on the inside of the body, not outside of
the body, assuming thats what you did.

And you should graze out the inside with metal wool stuff to roughen it up,
that stops the paint flaking when the plastic gets bent.

And usually most people have to have 2 shells anyway. One for smashing up in
races and one for just driving it around.

Iuse Spray cans...make sure the temp of the paint is at least 70 degrees f.
(both for air brush and can)
Then use 000# steel wool to etch the inside of the body and spray several
light coats of paint, let each coat dry...
then use a back up coat of silver or white to seal it..

Re: Body Painting - Type of Paint - Tips - Flaking Off

Remember to wash the inside of the body before you do anything on it....
with warm water and neutal soaps like those you use to wash plates.... I
think you can find them in your kitchen....
I don't used to wool the body, but most of my bodies can last for almost
half year.... without major crash... I mean even the body have damaged,
those paints will not flak off...

Usually I use faskcolor from Parma to airbrush my bodies, and sometimes
Tamiya PC series will do the job.

Check for my bodies in my ebay auctions and leave some comments thx.
