How about some sub-$100 foamies; receiver ready?
Hobby City got these in; they're the same ones that other middlemen on the forums are pushing for double the price.

Yes, but there is a niche for RTF planes. They are for people that are unsure or unwilling to build a kit. I have the AT su27 it was my first plane complete ready to crash. I built a a4 kit much better finished product but by the time I added the battery it is at 380.00 though.Same with RC cars and trucks mostly junk eletronics but they do allow people to get started without intimidation. Also I went 12 years ago to the local hobby shop wanting to buy a mig17. $800.00 for the airframe not including electronics needlees to say I did not come home with it,LOL. Other things to consider is logistics like batteries. My art tech battery cost 30.00 shipped a big battery for the A4 cost 3 times that. I do agree about the lacking motors etc. Honstly I would not be flying or buliding my own EDF's if it were not for the RTF that got me started.

The gripe isn't with RTF. The gripe is with the crappy electronics that they package with them. It does a dis-service to a newb trying to get into the hobby. They end up crashing their new plane because the power system/servos etc. crap out and fail. |

I agree with overpriced foamies. I know the molds cost $$$ to make but a foamy without electronics shouldnt cost over $150 (that is with alot of detail and parts). Now before everyone goes crazy I do not mean the big foamies but the nice sized park planes or a little bigger. Just cause you put panel lines and some detail into the foam doesnt justify and 50% increase in price.
