Ozzi look for the frame loss counter on Model Flight. It's a spektum accessory. Will show you frame losses and data losses.

Very handy to debug glitching.

Thanks. I will do that. I've had 2 situations where I've lost control for a few seconds now. Very strange.

I find even if I bend my tx antenna at a 45 degree angel I still get a few frame losses. Do you bend yours at 45 or 90 degrees?

No bend. I keep it straight. I'm thinking that the first may have been a low voltage brown out. That was a while ago with a little edf Sabre. That one I recovered and brought her home. Todays is a mystery. The plane was right in front of me. It just died and headed straight for the ground. It had one of the new 6110's in it which are meant to have a really quick recovery although at the altitude I was at no recovery would have been quick enough.

I had a look at the spektrum accessory and it says it oly works with 9 channel Rx's

Try keeping your antenna bend, I had mine straight and had problems with signal when the plane was directly infront of me. Something to do with the pattern the radio transmitts. I bet Dave knows all about it!

Really on 9CH rx's? That's dumb, they should have made it for all of them.

The antenna radiation is almost Null straight out the top of any antenna like that, same goes for any antenna of that design. They best radiate outwards from the antenna, the best way to hold would be straight up 90 degrees from the planes location.

This is a typical Vertical antenna radiation pattern, looking from the side. The antenna is pointing straight upwards...

Totally, always keep the antenna at 90* to the horizon. Think of the antenna as a fluro light (a straight one, not the energy efficient ones u put in a standard globe fitting), if you look at it end on from a distance you won't see any of the light.

I knew there was something about pointing your antenna at your plane with 2.4 gear but the fluro analogy really cleared it up. Thanks Adam.
What if you bend your antenna at 90* so that it is basically pointing straight up from where your standing. Does that mean any area in front of and above you has a good clear signal?
Using the fluro again. If I hold the fluro up the same way I am standing then even if someone is right at the other end of the field they should see the light.

My philosophy is have the aerial straight up out of your txer and never point it at the model. If you watch me fly I am always at an angle to my model - never facing it.

I use the 'txer signal looks like a doughnut' methodology - the hole of the doughnut represents the hole in the signal pattern, just like the fluro description.

I was going to write something useful about donuts and eathworms but instead I'll just say:

Fu#%%£]¥]£ iPhone. Why does it always refesh the page when a go look at something else for a few minutes to copy n paste something in here. Maybe I *don't* want to lose my 200 word post I spent 5 minutes labouriously typing on this stupid on screen keyboard.

Anyway, I could have retyped the post by now, but #€=¥{]]<¥} it.

Be careful about using expletives fingers. I was reported for having an avatar of a guy just trying to shake his plane out of a tree.
