toy begging to be bashed??
so... on Saturday was out with the family at toys R us .. getting stuff for the kiddo... passed down the model/RC just to see whats out
and I saw a box I couldn't pass up... the RC fast lane Sea Shadow.. high speed boat and submarine! $45.... how could I say no??? I looked through the box.. looked atleast sorta promising even came with all the batteries required... and some lead for balast. got it home and looked it over... no forward/reverse or speed control... only left/right and up/down.. turn it on and the engines are on. took it out sunday mornin to the lake. threw the batteries in it.. dropped it in the lake "high speed" it's not... I could stay with it at a decent walk ... range.. about 10ft... now the big test.. hit the down stick... and it DIVED! .. not only that.. it like went up down and turned underwater .. pretty nicely.. but it tends to drop speed on turns and it's really positively boyant do it wants to pop right up with no speed to keep the down plane to keep it down. went about 4ft down with no ill effects. got about 1.5 hours total run time before I got it stuck under the dock the club members and even the leader of the club loved the little bastard and asked tons of questions as about it and try it out ... looks like the club is getting 2 or 3 of their own for the little display pond they set up for events and such ![]() anyways on to the fun stuff!... I've still got 1 set of Storm launcher gear still waiting for something to get stuffed into ... if I can some time this week I'm gonna open it up and see what kinda options I have to put this go fast gear into it

1.5 hours run time with the motors running constantly? That is excellent for a toy (or any) RC. Below is a picture of the Sea Shadow from another RC forum.

Here are some shots from a couple of my recent toy bashes.
#1 Cabin Cruiser 3837 Atlantic cost me around €40 on Ebay. I trashed the RC and replaced it with some decent stuff. As the original was steered by differential rpm's on the motors, I had to add a rudder. This model, sorry 'toy', has a couple of praisworthy features : - the threads on the prop shafts to retain the propellers are handed LH/RH - there are lubrication tubes for the shafts |

Here's #2 which goes by the name of Tracer.
This one nearly didn't make it. When the model, sorry toy, arrived I was horrified to discover that the components were not accessible under the superstructure. With nothing to lose I binned the superstructure and cut a hole on the deck which is now closed by a hatch I fabricated. The crude actuator operating the rudder was replaced by a mini servo (and all the R/C components were binned as well, of course). I have water cooled the motor as it was getting quite hot. The performance of the hull is fantastic. Quite the flattest running performance boat I ever owned. |

Here's #3, the current project. I haven't quite worked out what it is supposed to be called so I refer to it as 757 Yellow.
I installed the rudder yesterday. I intend to swap the receiver and ESC with the cabin cruiser to keep costs down. |

Finally a note of warning to all would be toy bashers
Find out beforehand if it is possible to access the components. I have a neat hydroplane model where it is impossible to remove the receiver, so it's currently gathering dust in the cellar. I am also struggling with a Graupner RTR Severn Class Lifeboat - see http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=872949 Beware !! |

yeah I've already had it open... wide open inside.
the funny part is.. I'm bashing a toy... with another toys guts .. heh... so I'll still have no reverse.. but I will have speed control instead of always on. I just wanna see this Sea Shadow be able to clear the surface and actually accomplish what the box leads one ot beleive it is like (not that I beleived the box when I bought it )cool things of note ... the reciever box is sealed ... the battery box is a sealed screw down top design (with a silicone gasket) ... and the dive planes are already servo operated. I was gonna do the bash this week.. but I need some small wire and little odds and ends to do it in the quickest timeframe to fullfill my needs to be water worthy quickly
