She works pretty well except the speed control does not give me much low end range. May need to operate it on 6V instead of 12 to slow it down. Also, it puts out too much smoke, so I may need to put the generator on 6V as well. More pictures later once the lights go on it

Beautiful tug! Yeah those Aquacraft "blues" are real racy aren't they! 6V will help but an ESC with a better low end might help more.
Again great work, that smoker is impressive huh!

It looks great.

Can you attach your smoke unit to your ESC? Might be neat to vary the smoke based on motor demand.

Also, rather than going down to 6v, how about putting a gearbox on the motor? More fine control of the motor and still get good speed. Just an idea, 6v would work also.

I have used the Astroflight Marine controller and it has great low speed capabilty, with a dumas 6v motor on 6 cells (7.2v) it can just tick over on the lowest notch of the transmitter stick.

The motor in it appears to be already geared. Its an MFA torpedo 500.

Does anyone know if this speed control will work on 6V? Its rated only from 7.2 to 12.

Harbor says that the smoker can be varied with motor speed, but not sure exactly how they do it...

must be the speed of the fan? dont see how else they could do it, cant really turn the smoke unit its self off as it would take awhile for the smoke to stop, then would take awhile for it to start again surley?

The fan unit has accessible wires that are connected in parallel to the heating element. I think I just need to cut the wires and connect them to the speed control while leaving the heater on all the time.

Can anyone confirm this? When I ordered my first Harbor Models smoke unit they were not able to confirm this.

I guess I'm concerned about the effects of having the heating element on all the time while the fan is not running.

Great looking build Everglades. I like the smoke. Perhaps if it were to come out of a larger diameter flue, it might disperse a little more. Nice use of all of the goodies inside!!

The only problem with that is if you shut the motor off, then the fan shut off, and if its abit windy it will force the air back into the smoke unit and fills your boat up with smoke, i had the same problem with my tito neri, so i just leave the fan on all the time, but im using the hunter smoke unit

if you sealed the smoke unit off and ran a pipe or something to out side ( that lets the air in ) then if you shut the fan off least it wont fill your boat with smoke though its abit more work
