I think it is so warm the bees have become active and are looking for food so they won't starve. We had hundreds of them swarming us a week ago when a farmer was plowing the field next to the hives but the bees were so docile that I could pick them up even though they were flying well and quite active. They were not defensive at all. I had a couple of bees trying to squeeze between the gaps between my fingers trying to get in to my hand not out. I had a couple landing on my balding head. Luckily I am not afraid of them. They were landing on anything that wasn't brown or dull green and wandering around.

Here is a Low and Slow video I shot on Friday.

Hey I have some great news (great to me anyway)! Now that the weather has turned to crap, my Dragon Link is back! I sent it to be repaired when my daughter was born, she turned 6 weeks old yesterday. Time to celebrate!

Okay sorry for all the sarcasm. I know the folks at DL are busy I really do appreciate the lifetime warranty they provide for their products.
Rock on.

Wow, I wonder why it took so long. Mine came back in less than a week, as have a lot of other people's according to comments in the DL thread.

I'll bet that you sent yours in before he had it actually ready to implement. He was making a lot of last minute tweaks and testing the code for the new firmware.

That, or yours may be a lot older and required more involved modifications so he put it on the "old stuff" stack.

Either way, it still feels good to get a newly updated system that'll allow us to fly with other UHF guys more easily.

So the weather for the next little while looks mediocre at best. Lots of snow, rain & wind. Time to start building some new FPV planes. But Friday evening at sunset may not be too terrible. Does anybody want to hook up for some mountain FPV flying during sunset?

And are any of you guys planning on going down to St. George mid February for the President's Day fly-in? I expect to spend a bit of time out in the red rock country again getting some good footage. I want to start coordinating things for that trip.

So, here's an interesting bit of news.

We now have a Lockheed Martin business in our back yard developing UAV tech for Uncle Sam. Wonder how long it'll take before they buy the entire sod farm area and turn it into a government UAV proving ground?

Mike B,

Dude, next time you go snowmobiling like that, let me come up and get some FPV chase footage of you on the vehicles!

I've been wanting to do some adventure footage since I started this FPV stuff and have yet to line anything up. I've got one gig possibly next week to go film some guys up in Northern Utah. If you're going out snowmobiling again, give me a call, maybe we can make something work.

It's been really quiet in here. Are all you FPV guys in hibernation?

I'm anxious to hear how Scott & Mike K's long distance attempt went this week! How'd it go guys?

I just finished editing my newest video and it turned out sweeeet. I won't post it publicly until next Monday, but I think you guys are gonna love it.

EDIT:

Haha, you posted right before me Mike. Good mountain flight. Does it get your heart rate up getting up that high? It does for me every time. Of course, I'm usually flying 10 feet off the cliffs, so maybe that's why. This new video opens with a shot of me nearly slamming into a rock stack that came up out of nowhere while scaling down the face of Timp. I couldn't even see it in my live video feed until I was literally plowing into it. A microsecond slower response and that plane would have been toast. My heart rate didn't drop back to normal for a good half hour. Does that count as cardio exercise?

Todd,

I would love to.

I'm with you, that sounds like fun, and the footage could be real cool.

It is something that would have to be set up though. When everybody travels to the mountain, they are expecting to go out and ride without supporting a tag-along.

It would be unfair to the group if I just popped it on them.

I can get you in touch with a guy who has been begging me to set up a trip like that though.

He lives down your way, and This guy is a good rider...

I hear ya. Yeah, definitely send me his contact info, or have him contact me.

I think there are a LOT of adventure nuts that would love to be able to find a videographer to trail them from a plane and get good HD video, especially if they can edit and make professionally edited videos with music, which is right up my alley.

I met a free climber down in Vegas a few weeks ago that really wants me to come back and do some video footage of them freeclimbing. I may do that one of the mornings while we're down there at the fly-in. It's only a few hours from St. George. The terrain they climb is really gorgeous. I lost a gopro down there trying to fly in their cliffs, and it's amazing stuff. The footage I lost with the gopro was some of the best I've ever flown, so it was sad. I've since redesigned my GoPro mount so they stop popping off every time I snag a . . . a mountain.

I'll probably set up my new Quad with a secondary GoPro mount for the waterproof case so I can get out and do this winter stuff more easily.

No it's that pesky job thing that keeps taking up all my time. That and not a lot of good days when I have time to use them.
