Naw. Back to ergonomics. You gotta balance the load. Tools in one hand, chair over the shoulder of the other hand holding the birdie. Balanced you must be, outside and in!

The cool part is that if the box is heavy enough (not THAT heavy), an enterprising box builder can drill holes in small hardwood blocks and attach them on the inside edge of a fork, and ther be a balancing stand. Genius!

Katie? You could put little wheels on it and a retractable handle and drag it behind you like a flight sttendant going thru the airport.

Nawww, what Katie needs is one of them blonde hair, blue eyed surfer boys out there in Cali to carry all her stuff to and from the field.

I was actually thinking of folding legs. Wheelies would be neat, too. Lemme play with what I have, and then get tweaking with ideas. I was thinking of keeping it fairly simple, and letting the final builder to modify with extra goodies. Like wheels.

Mine, I was thinking of laminating the sides with a hodgepodge mosaic of CF, Aramid and FG scraps, all different thicknesses and weaves. (which means I'll need scraps, but that's another story)

Cap'n, if'n your making the fork thicker, could you put in a couple rubber band notches, like so? This is for the spinny-thingee people to tie their whirly birdie down with.

Sis you still have a question about some dimensions? I'm home now, and armed with a ruler.

Sean, ONLY if he has a set of brains between those ears! Dunno 'bout them surfer dudes.

The lines are OK. Is the ID of the fork big enough for some of the bigger sailplanes? Not the scalies, maybe, but at least the other guys, up to about 4m.

That looks fabulous! Did you see how the top edge of the glue drawer and top drawer end just below the underside if the box top? I think I see that happening in your pictures. This leaves the front edge of the box top free to bond with the little box front piece, and form that tidy tray on top.

Johnny, you know it would be super easy to build a CG balancer into that thing. just make the top endplate points on one side about 1 inch taller and mark the centerline. Voila, a field cg checker.

By Golly Wayne! that's a fabulous thought! So as I 'm in the process of getting the other drawers in place- lock tabs etc. and I thunked a think. I came up with 12"X48"X1/4" birch ply @ Balsa USA@ "15.00$ a sheet (14.64) Now we know that our Labor is more spendy, but I just wanna check before it's all tabbed out. i'm guestimating 4.5 sheets with good material layout.-
75 bucks with no cutting or gluing. are we still in?

Woo hoo, that's a lot of wood.

I'm going to hold off on the wood for now, maybe in a month or so. You know how it goes. Of course, if anyone else wants to try one out, feel free.

Once I do get one cut, I get to make the assembly instructions. That sound like fun.

Now, just how many would I end up having made? That's the fun question. Probably just a couple. I'll see if anyone else wants one, really.

ETA: I just had a brain-something. Before you start tabbing..... Is there any advantage along with some weight savings, of making all the drawer sides, bottoms and backs out of a thinner ply? Unless that's too much trouble to re-CAD. What about the main box bottom? I just realized how heavy this thing will get with all that 1/4" wood.
