Back in the day that I was actually building instead living 'life'I remember doing a 7 day sit- just Like my favorite welding job back in '77-79- when finished, the product would sit horizontally, with sag inspections every 8 hours. when it passed, it went on a train to Boston! max sag allowed was .032" in 57 feet- I do the same with my birds- mostly! cuz sumethin always shows itself

Yeah this is all Sean's fault......

Dump luck/thumb.... Wx today was approx 5-10 gusting. First and subsequent launches right up the line as if it wuz on rails. Plane really flew well, and on last flight on downwind turn onto final the wind decided that at that time to completely stop, I didn't have enough speed so I got a Clean break at the right wing tip panel break, 1 rib, 2 plywood spar caps, cover and it'll good as new.

That's how the last flight of my Oly II ended, only it didn't turn at all and flew into phone lines before falling on it's back. Broken glue joints on wing spars/ribs, cracked elevator, loose rudder hinges. That was probably a year and a half ago and the only thing I've done was strip the covering from the wings.

I know you're busy Wylie. If you want to ship the wing over here I'll fix it.

True, true. I know mine always do. I think it has to do with beating them into submission.

Oh, no, here we go again.

There is no such thing as a "downwind turn hazard", only problems with stalling because a ground-based pilot gets fooled by ground speed into flying too slow. It's all due to optical illusions, not aerodynamics.

Fact of the matter yeah wuz in fact DOWNWIND.... My mistake was not keeping enough speed up going into the turn in the first place. It did n't help that the wind stopped.... So to recap... I made a turn in which was downwind from me at to low of speed to fly.... Wing stalled,,, and struck the ground on the right wing tip...

I'd call that a downwind turn hazard ... Wouldn't u say

Hey Sean, I need outlines of the inner/outside wing panel break ribs and the outline of the plywood wing doubler caps.

Right you are Katie, that would be the case if the grapes were still on the vine, but fortunately for us the harvest has been completed and the vines are heading into dormancy -leaves are falling off. So rain right now doesn't bother them, and neither would a little extra water in the soil. It will just soak in and refill the water table.

Also, as the Napa river is typically more of a "problem" in situations like this near the south end of the valley - near San Pablo Bay, where the tide has greater influence, and "most" (not all) of the grapes are "up" further in the valley, flood waters really aren't much of a concern. Now if they flooded and sat for a few weeks in water it might be a problem, but fortunately after a normally dry summer the soil probably still could use some moisture, and most of it will eventually sink in. At least that's the plan

Cheers,

Rob
