Al has it right. A nitrided pin won't bend easily and would probably break if you try (dangerous). Yup, mild steel, bend it, turn it red and anneal. Oil can flash so wait till red is just gone.

G.

I had three Uncles in # 2, was at my Grandparents when it ended and the shouting started and the streets filled with very happy people.

I'll never forget.

G,

I have an idea that will be announced in my Winter Newsletter, a Postal Contest Exclusively for Sky Bench pilots. Now that should light a fire under Don to finish his
OLY lll.

On my web somewhere is a National Postal I ran, maybe in 2005, the set up format is a no brainer, but I'm not sure about what time of year would be best. Anybody have any thoughts ... let's hear them.

Mr. G, I'm doin great considering I just took a 26% pay cut . Oh well, still have a job and just have to tighten up even more. How's your back doing? My sister recently had surgery and got some pins put in hers. She feels much better and most of her pain is gone now.

Hey Ray! I actually cleaned and organized my building area this weekend and will have this Oly done very soon. Hmmm, I think I've heard myself say that before . The postal for Skybench sounds very cool, count me in. BTW Ray, due to the above, if you haven't already, better run my card for the Merlyn while there's still some change in my account .

Wing rods.... Hardening and availabilty

You can get oil and water hardening drill rod at any machining tool vendor...

A 36 inch piece of 01 1/4 drill rod will cost you 5 bucks at most.

There are instructions for hardening it on any of the hobby machining websites.

When. Used for cuttig tools, I grind / cut etc. Then heat to thourough red hot. Then drop into USED motoroil.

Then to give some toughness (fracture resistance) back to it, I reheat till a "straw color" and let air cool slowly.

Should give 130-150,000 psi yield... And on rod <3/8 heat treat should go all the way thru.

TJ,

A postal contest is an honor based contest wherein we sign up play by Ray's rules on the given day of the contet. Things like total TD time for a given flight, landings and even the weather gives you points. Sounds like only Skybench kits are allowed. Ray will create the tasking.

Ah, thank you for the explanation. I hope I'm off on the day of the event so I can play along with my Skybench Oly II.
