You have to plan ahead Jack. I'm thinking little Jack can start his balsa sanding career about 2013. You don't start em on critical joints. Maybe rough shaping fuses and such then slowly move them up to dimensioning spar caps by the time they're 6 or so.

Congrats Jack.

I guess he'll be a little sander instead of a little shaver...

I'll have some Paragon LE's that will need sanding..... but he may still be a tad too young for that.....

I have decided to retain the stock spruce spars and add .030 CF top and bottom, trimming the spar notches in the ribs to accommodate. This will be the most cost effective and least extra work. I measured the plans, and the spar web height is 7/8, so reducing it to 13/16 should not affect its strength, plus I am substituting the stock "box" spar arrangement for true full-width (3/8") vertical grain balsa spar web out to the poly break, and 1/4 from the poly break to the tips. I still replay that fateful day in Visalia over in my mind, and I hereby reaffirm my vow to never break a Paragon spar again.....

I was slopein the O 3 on a beautiful ridge next to the hwy when a good lookin tourist girl stopped to watch on her way to Yellowstone park, I immediatly put it down to talk to her. (the sailplane) I asked if she would mind taking some photo's of my sailplane in the air for me. "sure, no problem, I'd be happy to" she said. I flew in front of her, I flew at her, I flew around her for about 10 or 15 minutes while we talked about "must see" places in the park, places to stay and good resturants along the way. I said you can't take to many photo's so don't be shy... "OK", she said. She said she would be traveling back thru this way in four or five days and would stop by my studio and let me hear of her adventure, "great" I said, "here's my phone #, just give a call and maybe we could do dinner?" She said, "that would be wonderful" After she left I looked at the photo's she took.... 32 pics. There has to be some good shots of my new plane in here I thought.... Wrong I did however somehow get some pictures of me ( actually, the back of me, like below the waist of me also some great shots of cloud formations with a wingtip in one corner Hummm It can't be that difficult? I amost ran her over on a few low passes! This is the only (blurry) photo that she managed of my sailplane... The ones of my rear end were somehow perfectly in focus. Beauty is great, but you can't fix stupid
