Looking good. In checking out your last pic....what did you use for anchoring your wing pins just aft of the spar? Remember, I mentioned using hard wood there. No need in taking chances with just hard balsa.
By the way, did you ever get a spring of the right size? Hell, I'll make you one like mine if you haven't gotten one yet.

Speaking of turkeys.....Steve, did that toe pecking turkey make it through another season or did he wind up on the barby?

Gerald
Hey Gerald,

Long time no hear from! Yes, I took your advise, the wing hooks are set through hardwood blocks that are epoxy riveted to the spars. Ray was concerned about the little slot being close to the joiner so I'll lam a little 64th ply inside the fuse around the area.

I'm not sure at this point if I'll use a spring or just use small Nylon wire ties and just clip them off...I got about a thousand of them. Woke up to crappy weather this morning with snow flakes big as quarters...yukky poo. Did you get any of this nasty stuff? The radar looks pretty clear out your way.

Thanks Sean, yeah, shouldn't be long now. Holiday stuff is a little consuming for me right now but I get about an hour in the evening to build after work and before I head over to Baby Dolls .

Don
Just for the sake of discussion, Don, I believe I'd plan on a spring. Those wire ties have a "ratcheting" action, and the point where the tie "catches" may not be exactly tight enough, and would allow flex, and the next point may be too tight and would stress the fuselage sides with no give.

Hey Nightowl,

Yes, I have reviewed the options and you have good points. I'm not at all worried about stress on the fuse sides from the ties, they are very small and cinch up nicely. I am a little concerned about no "give" but then again, does there need to be any? Dental rubber bands are another viable option. I've got a lot of those in various sizes because of my kids $4k smiles . I think all of the options mentioned would work just fine. The underlying theme here is to keep the wings on the plane without using tape.

Sellout!

Right when we had Jack where we want him.

We use zip ties occasionally, even have them on a 1/2 scale sailplane. I've never been comfortable with the spring idea but then I haven't tried it.

Don, just curious, and not questioning you reason, but why not tape?

It's the Journey, not necessarily the destination. Plans, s-man, plans, We'll settle for some plans. I am sure that between all us balsa brewers and beachers, we could dream up something that Dee Dee might think she hasn't heard about you before. We are very creative. Plans, we want plans! !

Sean,

Like Gerald, I'm tired of dicking around with tape. Aesthetically it's awful, fuctionally it's weak, leaves goo and delams the film around the area. I was really wanting, and will have, a nice clean gapless interface between the root and fuse with a hidden retaining system. Also, with the design of the O3, there's not a lot to tape to.

Don

Edit; add picture of Gerald's setup.

Yeah, fair enough if aesthetics are your primary concern, but tape is LIGHT, and that is numero uno friends. I'm starting to think there could be a lot of overweight OlyIII's out there in the world. Hey, I use one strip of cloth hinge tape, 5" long across the fuse and haven't a worry in the world with it.

Whats this about a collaborative effort to balckmail JW? Damn I miss out on all the fun stuff.
