I had one die right when I hooked one up and another one got suuuuper hot just holding it with no load. other two were fine....but that was enough for me to send em all back!

I fly electric, so no starting worries. But I do keep a rubber band holding the left stick down when I'm not flying. I've thought about a throttle cut switch, but I worry that I'd accidentally hit it during a flight and not fumble it back fast enough to avert disaster. So far dealing with what I want the plane to do, what it actually is doing, two sticks and a dual rate switch uses up all of my available brain power - nothing left over for another switch Maybe more practice will change that.

The switch I use is my throttle hold on my helis, so I am pretty quick with it.

+1 on getting your hand out of the way, and turning it via the spinner or front of prop to index it before flipping since the DLE will send a spark when the magnets pass, despite any rpm. the OS ignition has an rpm cutoff so the pop won't happen.

Had some excitement the other day. About to take off, gave it full throttle, heard a screech and the motor quit. Then some smoke appeared followed shortly there after by flames. I ripped the battery out with a pair of pliers and a buddy poured some water on the motor box.

Just charred the wood around the motor box and put a small melted spot on the cowl. New ESC and i should be back in the air.

Wow, that looks like it was exciting!

It was excitingly scary in a " I wish it had not happened to my plane" kind of way.

Did you ever figure out why your speed control caught fire? what brand was it?

It caught fire so l would be willing to bet its a castle. Wait crap l have all castle escs

I have several castles and have not had issues. But I have heard of others having problems since they started making them in china. I still feel they are a good speed control. I just ordered a ZTW 50 amp for my 47'' extra because my hacker X-55 was bad out of the box and is out of warranty.

Not Castle....Castle ESCs have red, black and white motor wires (at leas all of mine do)....

This happened on my 51" slick to but it was my Hacker A30-12XL2 that took out my ICE 75.
Lucky for me the damage to the plane was minimal so a new esc + Motrofly motor & I was back in the air
