For you first flight just try and get the CG right at the front of the wing tube. Put it in the air and fine tune battery placement after that. That will get you very close for the first flight.

merlin I like to use this set up . Most cuts are small and balsa cuts very easy and quick. A scroll saw works great for the thin plywood that you would use for formers and firewalls..

I use the same Flightmax 2650s that you are...you should have close to a neutral CG with aft (rearward) end of the battery sitting just on top of the landing gear formers.

I marked up one of you pics to show where I have the rear of the battery with my setup. See light blue lines on attached pic below.

Only difference between our setups is I'm running an Airboss 80.

Pretty much exactly where mine is, recommended setup. Sometimes I shift it back just a tad.

This is where I put mine and works great for me. YMMV

I fly mine with the CG very far back and its great.

No need to worry since you using the recommened setup, the Cg should be right on the money.

With a 4s 2650 Flightmax Pack I normally set the CG with the front of the battery with the leads facing to the tail slightly less than an inch away from the end of the battery tray.

This makes it pretty neutral leaning towards the tail heavy side. I have flown it slightly forward also and it still great. I have even flown it WAY to forward and it still wasn't to bad.

You wouldn't be able to easily cut the inside of the balsa wood with this, right? I tried to cut plywood to make a firewall with a hobby knife and.... NOT FUN!

Maybe I should search youtube to see if anyone has posted on how to fix things the way Phil did... hopefully they show their technique used and tools.

Yes I do. It was a scroll saw. It worked good for the plywood.

I have a rimfir.32 motor an a casle 75a esc and I'm running a 2200mah and I can only get round 3 minutes on a 3d flight.I could pry get 4 minutes but that would be pushing it....I also have two 2650's but I'm waiting for an adapter for them....hopefuly those will get more air time.
