Slow Stick mods for camera

What mods, motors, batteries, prop, etc., are being done to the SS to handle the weight of the Aiptec camera or any camera?.

Horizon Hobby is currently out of stock on the SS. Bummer

Are local hobby stores carrying the SS or is it only available through HH?.

The newbie again, Dennis..............

Dennis,
The SS really doesn't need any mods to carry a small camera! Best setup I have found is assuming you have the D motor (D is stamped on face of large gear) is a 12 X 6 prop and a 8 cell NiMH pack 800 to 1000 ma capacity! Be sure your wing rods are epoxied or Foam Safe CAed to the wing before wrapping with tape! Local Hobby Shops carry the SS but may also be out!

I carry my Aiptek with no mods, except of course rubber-banding the camera to the battery (6-cell 1000mAh NiMH pack). I use an electronic switch on a spare channel, similar to those you'll read about here..

The stock "D" gearbox, 12x6 prop (broke the 11x8), and a 7 cell 600 Nicad pack do an excellent job of hauling up the camera for me.

For on-line sources for the Slow Stick try:
Little Shop of hobbies www.littleshopofhobbies.com

I want to thank everyone for their comments and say that I just got back from RC Buyers Warehouse in Nashua NH with a new SS + a whole lot more.
Got the 8 cell 720mah flat pack nimh battery.

Guess I'll slip back into the wood work for a while till I have something to show y'all.

Thanks, Dennis................

The supplied wheels don't hold up even without the camera. I broke mine just flying indoor, no camera attached.
I bought some of the GWS 3.35" Ultra Light Shock Absorbing Wheels from Aeromicro - MUCH better, and work well outside too..

Here is my mod to the SS, No change tot he structure, no reinforcement. Just more power, rearrange servo location to accomodate the heavier battery.

The stock wheel and LG held up just fine. I am not sure what Andy did with them. My SS lands so soft and I must have over 100 fights with them and the wheels are still in good shape.

Looks like a little carbon rod in the leading edge of your horizontal stab? And I would assume with this amount of weight and power increase that you did strengthen the wing as well.

I-ve found that a few little carbon rods glued into both and two bamboo skewers glued at 45 degrees from horizontal to rudder stab significantly strenghten and stabilize the tail.

No, that was a piece of tape that I taped to the leading edge of the stab to smoother leading edge. When I pointed the camera to the rear, the tape reflected light and make the photo looks funny. So I blacken the tape to eliminate the reflection. Not a bad idea to stiffen the stab though. Will be in the next APSS

The wing is totally stock except I did glue the fiberglass rod to the wing with RC-56 and then packaging tape over the glue.
