EDGE 540 foamie
I saw some really amazing planes here, great job puting all this together.
This is my home built EDGE 540, and plans. It's a fun to fly airplane, and very easy to build.
Some data :
Weight without battery: 370g
Basic Materials : 6mm foam sheet,
6mm carbon tube for the wing,
3mm foam for the canopy
For building phases you can check this link. I know is in romanian, but I put a lot of pictures, it shoud be quite clear. (the only things you need to know from the plans that "dreapta" is right and "stanga" is left, in order to put the fuselage together correctly , and that right and left is from the pilot's point of view )
If you need more info, just let me know, and I will gladly help.
I let the video tell the rest.
Here is the plan that I worked on (Corel Draw format) ,
The plan for printing on A4 paper (pdf),
and the plan for plotting on A1 format (corel, dxf, tiff).

I still have this pane and even if the earth jumped up a few more times since the video, it still flies very well.
Here is an assembly instruction file, I translated the info, see the notes.

Hi Nemo !
Very nice Edge 540, congratulations !
I like the Video too, sorry for the "touch down" - it's already dangerous to perform a low speed barrel roll near the ground
What kind of Brushless / Lipo do you use for your Edge, please ?

I used the following configuration for this plane:
Engine: BL Outrunner ROXXY 2827/ 34 - with 15A controller
Prop: GWS Direct Drive 11 x 7
Servo: 4xGWS NARO-BB
Pack: LiPo 3cell 2200mA

To keep this thread as originaly intended, links to plans.
All plans and disscution about these planes have been moved here.
I used a 3.8x0.8mm spar on main wing. A GWS 7x3 prop, Mistery 12 speed control,
10 gram HK motor,
300mla or 360mla 2cell battery,
If you didn't notice it's not realy an Extra, the plane is what I thought are the best parts of,a Juka, a Yak,
a Extra, and a Cap, so this one should be called the Jockstrap, I've redrawn the plans, for a true Extra, and will post them soon. and change the name on these plans accordingly.

dleep, that is a great concept. Very anxious to hear a maiden report.
I am considering different planes for a 1st 3D machine. I obviously will need a trainer of some kind and would love to see how this one floats. That and I love my 1811 o.r.

With your being a bit "short coupled", would adding length be a possible idea?
|Nov 18, 2009, 02:11 PM|
Actualy it's not as short coupled as I thought. The thing to do is move
the elevator back so the clearance hole is in the rudder. The reason I
didn't do that originaly is,a smaller elevator gives you more control cause
you can cut it closer to the fuse. IE/ you don't have to cut a big -V- in
the back of the elevator. I also does very tight loops!!! But for learning
3D It does help to have a longer fuse, with a slightly musher feel. It's
lots of fun to compair the two. Mabe I will post both plans soon
Also the main wing does get a wing spar. I used a 3.5x0.8mm flat carbon
bar that works great.
I put the aleron control under fuse to make top look cleaner, but they
kinda get in the way of the batt, speedcontrol, and reciver, so I recomend
just putin them on top.
This is my first plan posting and a lot of the info is vage, So experianced
builders will have an easyer time till I get all the info add to plans.
