Looking for 1st EDF jet...Help?

I have been flying RC for over 20 years, a lot of gas, some electric, and currently mostly foamy slope.

I'm interested in what you think is the best combination of Fan/motor/battery and model ... and if I can get them all in one place the better.

My electric experience is a kit built Electrostreak, a 2M Elec sailplane and a Zagi.

My preferences would be F16, F18, F20, Mig 29... but most important I am looking for satisfactory performance (doesn't have to be a rocket), it can be small in size say 32 to 48 WS, single fan and easy battery setup.

Bungee launch OK, I do it with my slopers.

Thanks

Steve

Hi Steve,
I have seen several Kyosho KV-1000 flown. They fly good, easy assem., good performance. I know of one getting a brush-less up-grade which should make it even better. Add one cell to the pack.
A 8-1700cp pack would give better performance over stock & acceptable mtr. life. Then your ready for brushless. Tower has these jets.
As always, IMHO.

Jets

Steve,

Thanks,.... I've read of the Kyosho, but I really want to go more scale jet fighter looking, and I am not afraid of brushless right off the bat.

While I don't want to spend a mint, I will spend what I need to get a good quality product.

Thanks for the tip... all info is really appreciated.

If you want to build, go for the EJF kit of Kevin Cox's F-18.. or EAM has a F-18 ARF based on Kevin's design as well. Power options go from mild to wild so you can get into it as deeply as you want...or your wallet can handle.

Plus there are many good ,long threads on construction of this trendsetting model.

You obviously have the building experience and flying skills so Pick one and GO FOR IT!!

Steve,

I second Bruce's recommendation. EAM F18 is the most fun I am having right now as far as EDF goes! <Still waiting for Savage brother's Su27>

However, for your fisrt EDF, you should go with Kyosho F16 brushless setup. The thing is stable, slow, and easier on your adrenalin gland...

Unless there are some in a store somewhere, not available anymore. You can get a fuselage from Tower for 79$. I just recieved one. Will make my own built-up wings etc.

Steve,

Kyosho stopped exporting the F16 to the US, but you may still get one else where in the world. Apparently, there are still 2 versions available - Fighting Falcon and Thunderbird.

Here is link to a Japanese retailer...

How about the GWS A-10 that's coming? I too have been flying RC for about 15 years and want a good electric EDF for my next plane. I've had my eye on the A-10.

Prior experience electric/glider experience includes the Twinjet, FMA Razor, and the Gentle Lady. I've also flown .40 sized low wing gas planes for quite some time.

Back when I was flying lots of gas, the two best trainers were the Regal Eagle from BVM and the Yellow Aircraft F-16. I've seen both fly and I agree the F-16 makes a great trainer. Any comments on the A-10? Doesn't need to be the GWS model.

An A-10 would be more ideal as a 1st EDF. With a straight wing and large area, it should be docile.

Can't wait to see the GWS A-10.
