Yet another Brushless SB

Hey all
I've finally joined the ranks of brushless SB flyers.
I bought a MP Jet 25/35 and a couple of 8c Hecell packs.
I haven't flown it yet, but it tries to pull up out of my hand very strongly.

Here's a shot of the front.
As you can tell, my plane is a bit beat up.
About ready for a new fuse.

Mounting method is pretty basic. Though I may put this motor in one of the GWS gear boxes later.

The motor threw the CG off a bit.
Since I use a standard size aircraft rx, I was unable to move the battery back to compensate for the nose heavy condition.
After much thought, I decided to use the space in the canopy.
Works perfectly, and allows lots of room to move the battery.

Hopefully first flight tomorrow.

A quick note on the MPJet. I an redesigning the SB to make the building simpler but I also widened the nose to accept the MPJet motor. You will have to cut two of the mounting ears off but I'll make a motor mount for it.

I'll give a flight report when I'm done.

Very technical isn't it?
Did you have to sand a bit off the bottom end of the mount stick to clear the part of the gearbox around the motor? I ended up doing this because originaly it had a lot of down thrust.

mcba- Thanks! I used a couple rattle cans to make the plane visible.

Doug- Let me know when you're done. I'll be in the market for a new fuse soon.

On to the flight report!!!!
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's not purple power, but for $50 I don't expect it to be.
I'm using a GWS 10x8 and brand new 8c hecell packs. This was only the second flight on each so I'm sure the next few flights will get better.

First flight. Unlimited vertical for the first 30 seconds or so. Keep in mind that the batt packs were charged and sat for about a day and a half, I think hot off the charger with packs that are broken in you should see unlimited vertical well into the pack.

Believe it or not I hovered my SB for close to 10 seconds. It was pure accident. I went vertical and as it went up it slowed to the point of a hover, I decided to see how it would behave so I didn't touch the sticks. It held itself there for a while before falling out.

With the increased weight, the flying speed is increased and rolls are quicker and crisper with less "nose down". The landing speed is also increased, but not enough to make landings difficult.

Jason

PS. Just a warning. The WOW factor is increased quite a bit.
