I did my first aerotows with mine today for a laugh, just a multiplex fox so nothing extravagant! Being so small the fox flitted around all over the place whilst being towed but once released it was great! Going to get a cularis i think after christmas and give that a go

I used to have the Cularis Tom. Great model and I took some nice video from it on holiday.

That would be good fella, probs wont get one til after christmas, actually definately wont get one before christmas as i still have the lil banchee to maiden, you wouldnt believe how difficult it was getting hold of a motor mount for it!

Here 's their Cularis offering. I'll get mine later next summer. I'm planning to get the Sig Sun Dancer and the Sig Rascal 110 first, and THEN follow with the Cularis. So little time, so many airplanes.

How much wind can the Mentor handle with the stock Multiplex powerpack Thanks, Denny

Probably 10mph-15mph but the stronger it is the more experienced you'll need to be, because you'll need a lot of power to get you back up wind. If you're a beginner don't fly it in anything stronger than 10mph, preferably not above 5mph. Just my opinion.

I am getting back in flying after a 20 year layoff. The flying are we have is about 300 X 100 yards. Is the Mentor too large for this size of field? FYI I have been "flying" a simulator and can handle all but the fastest turbo jets.

I've flown my Dad's Mentor in a field smaller than that and it was fine. It flies quite slowly if you want it too, much slower than an IC trainer of the same size, so I think you should be OK with that much space.

Has anyone tried or are using the Zippy-H 3500mah 30C battery from Hobbycity in the Mentor . The price is good at 63.00 Dollars and the reviews seem ok. Thanks, Denny

Mentor is such fun to fly from noob to expert. I've been flying a few years and you can't beat trying to harrier it with some wind...huge fun...

The Mentor will fly on quite a wide range of motors and that Rimfire looks fine. Its max constant current is 45A, very similar to the recommended motor, and I see no reason why it shouldn't give a similar flying performance to the recommended Himax motor. I reckon you should try it, and if you don't like it you can always buy another motor, they're easy to access and change on the Mentor. Don't worry that your motor will make the plane hard to fly, it won't, the Mentor flies really nicely on very little power or a lot of power (I fitted a more powerful motor than the recommended one [a 60A 1200] but I never use full power so a powerful motor is not necessary.)
