CP's

What pack configuration are you going with. You might want to C/G the plane with it sitting on top before you cut anything.

I went with the 8 cell inline. I have found that i did nothave to butt mine right up agianst the nose though. They are sitting about halfway inside the cockpit.

Cells

Really? Your running small servo's then? I don't even think mine ever came that far forward with Pico's. I could be wrong though. If you chuck it and it wants to go straight up and stall I guess you'll know. This plane can tolerate tons of forward CG, it just takes off the top end and wants to climb at acceleration, But Aft CG freaks it out.

Actually Barry mine are Sitting pretty much where yours are in the pic you sent to me. I see five cells in the Batt bay and Just a Hint of the 6th cell. the rest are up front. When i Balance for CG at 135MM back from leading edge it balances JUST a Hair Nose heavy.

NOT nose heavy

Well the Mirage 2000-5 Instructions in the booklet said the CG was in between 130mm and 135MM. I had it Balance and ready to go on 130MM I had Kevin launch it for me and it started flying Tail heavy. I had to just cutthrottle and bring it in Best i could. I guess i did not have the motor plate Glued well because it came off and my Plastic Belly Pan Broke in Halfas well. Iwent back home did my 15 min repair job and Moved my Batts ALL the way ahead. So they are Now all the way Forward in the cockpit butted up agianst the nose. Hopefully the next flight will be better. It looks as though this sucker is really going to haul some butt though.Martin Hunter and i are going to go out tommorow SO.... Flight report tommorow

Wow Kushal, those colors really are ..... uh ..... highly visible!

For what it's worth, my Mirage benefitted from the following: wooden toothpicks epoxied through the firewall into the foam to firm up the firewall support, some light fiberglass to reinforce the belly pan, and digging out some foam at the front of the cockpit to leave more room to play with battery position.
Good luck, I'm looking forward to hearing how this motor selection works for you.

My mega mirage.....

I just built it with what I had. 9 Hecells, a Mega 1615/5, Castle Phoenix 25 and an APC 6x4 E. Motocalc says she'll do 49mph. Thats plenty fast for me. Climb rate is supposed to be 1200ft/m. Yeah! should not be hard to launch.

I'll try her with my clamp meter to determine the amp draw after I reformat the battery pack that I built from a crashed pack.

Thanks for the CG tip Kushal, I was balancing her on my fingers at the bumps under the wings, when I read your post on that being tail heavy, I set her up on my CG machine and she was. now balancing at 130mm with battary pack jammed way up front. 130mm on the CG machine not the same as the bumps on the wing.

If this plane handles and lands well on the 9 hecell pack, I got 16 of the heavier CP1300s waiting in the sideline looking for an application. 10 cells CP1300? hmmmmmmm

btw, I glassed the wings with AquaZAR varnish and 3/4oz fiberglass to protect them from rough landings. Ailerons were done the same too. Everythings else is stock.

I like the way you have your antenna wire running. Ihave found this is one thing about this Plane it is hard not to run the antenna back on itself and shorten your Range. I have a AZZAR antenna comming which will cure my problem nicley. You did a Nice job on glassing your wings......from the photo anyways. Mine does Look God awfull but i will be able to see it and know what side is what.

The more i read this the more confussed i get. the part that gets me is Barry says "I don`t think mine even came that far forward with the pico`s. I could be wrong though. If you chuck it and it wants to go striaght up and stall i guess you`ll know." Wouldn`t his have done this with is Batts FURTHER Back?
