You're welcome, Dan.

Today, I started charging a 2S pack that I made up. I set the charger to Lilo mode and 1.2 amps.
Make sure to balance charge. One never knows the state of charge of new individual cells.
Or better yet, charge them in parallel at first to ensure best equalisation.
And, 1.2A is a bit much for LiIon. The ones I use for my flashlights I usually charge at 0.5A.
The slower the better, if you are not in a hurry.

Jimmie, thanks for the kind words.

Typically not. But then I nearly always charge my low performance 18650's with either this charger or this charger. When I do use my iCharger, I charge low performance 18650's at about .4-.5 amps and walk away and only check the battery when it's done charging, at which point it's at ambient temperature.

My high performance 18650's (A123 LiFePO4) get charged at up to 5 amps and definitely experience a temp rise during charge.

As I see it, 5 degree C temperature rise in your cells is not particularly problematic but your charge rate may affect useful cycles. Bump it down a bit and temp rise will be negligible.

Ive been needing a better charger and have recently bought a 24V 1400W power supply. Ive been studying 2 chargers...the Powerlab 6 and the 306B. Im pretty well decided on the 306B....mainly because its slightly less money.
Does EPBuddy or Progressive have a discount code or a shipping special?

No, but
EP Buddy does offer free paraboards with a 306B purchase.

No.

This is why I charge LiPos only to 4.15V.

I heard that the military, where dependability counts even more, charge them to only 4V or so. Maybe a little more.

106b+ update

Anyone gotten the 3.14 upgrade to work on the 106b+? I've tried to no avail on win7-64. My upgrader only shows the usb bridge device on a COM port, not a device name with a serial number as other charger models do. I tried both a standard and the 'special' cable. Tried pressing stop when powering up as well.

Also, I see 'charge port not connected', after about 3 mins into a charge, even though the charger shows good numbers for each cell (they are all within 0.1v of one another). The charger just started malfunctioning like this, recently. Anyone else see these problems?

Any opinions as to whether it would be feasable to mod the 206b to increase the balance shunt current? Maybe someone has done it already. 200mA is not much to a 70Ah cell, though I realise the design was never for such large cells. Cheers :-)

Ive been using a 306B for a couple months and recently its been charging my batteries and then entering an endless balancing cycle. It will charge normally but then go for hours in balancing mode. It only stops if I stop it manually or it hits the safety timer. Anybody know whats going on?

Sometimes that is an indication of LiPolys going bad. What are the cell voltages displayed after 20 min. in the CV stage? Often dirty or loose balancing leads will cause issues also.

You could set to faster Balance and charger will not balance as long or as accurate. You could set the charge tro to say 4.15 versus 4.2 per cell.

Any ideas on why my 306b will not deliver the rated discharge amps with a resistor inline on +?

They are two one ohm 300w resistors paralled up.

So in other words you have 1 .5ohm 600watt resistor.

I bet we have all made those late night mistakes!

Are you sure they are in parallel and not series? lol
