OK, I can access the edit function now

I joined Google maps (e-mail and password required) and since Phill enabled the "Collaborate" function, I can now edit the map. Of course, since Phil already added the RMSA info, I don't need to. Thanks Phil

I'd like to post more than just cities. If you have a more exact address for the flying sites and if there are host club web sites, that information would be nice.

What a great idea! Thanks for getting the ball rolling.

I have often wondered if there is a comparable map of flying fields that could assist those of us who do not have access to a field large enough to accommodate a winch. To the best of my knowledge the AMA does not have a display like this, but they ought to have one. It would be most useful.

Once again, thanks for your trouble.

I tried to add a pin for the Oakalla Hawks contest in Mission, BC, Canada but it did not work (twice! ). I guess because it is not in the US?

Anyway - if anyone is interested it is Sept 6&7. Come on up and show us Canucks how to fly hand launch - it will be our first contest but I understand we have few seasoned pros from Seattle coming up to show us how it is done.

It is part of the NWSS Hand Launch series.

Actually, it did work twice. I deleted one of the two markers and left the other where you placed it. If you scroll down the list of DLG contests, you'll see yours at the bottom of the list. Click on it and your marker will come into view on the map with the dialog box.

I was curious about the relative sizes of the continental USA versus the DLG Eurotour part of Europe so I uploaded an image showing the two regions side by side. I edited out the Atlantic Ocean to more clearly show their relative latitudes. The most southern part of the DLG Eurotour is about even with the USA's most northern part. Our North West Soaring Society (NWSS) contests in the Pacific Northwest (red pins) are at about the same latitude as Europe's Northern Italy contests.

Frank,

I'm with you 100%. Phil thanks for putting this together, this is great. Now I have a better idea of where to plan vacations.

I added a number of pins to the map. What I mostly wanted to see was just a geographical overview of contest locations across the country. I think there is still a series of contests in the southern California are that is not represented on the map. Am I right about that? Can anyone post those contests on the map or direct to a web site that would list those contests?

If you want more information on the map besides just a pin showintg the general location then go ahead and add that information to the map. Also, many of the pins that I put up are just stuck in the nearby large city since I didn't have the exact location or the time to look up that information. You guys might want to fix details like that. You could also just post the information on this thread or email it to me so I can add it to the map. For instance, click on the Portland Oregon pin and look at all the information that pops up for that contest. I just cut and pasted that information into the map from an email that was sent to me.

This is a splendid idea, Phil. Thanks!

All you guys within a couple of states of the MVSA contests (just north of St. Louis), please KIM that our club contests have 10 - 12 entries every month with good flyers, and we would love to have you join us. To give you some inspiration, Dave Register makes the drive from Tulsa (7 hours). So c'mon over.

San Felasco

Took the liberty of adding Gainesville FL to the map ( I hope they don't mind) Great flying site and a great bunch of people to fly with.

Thanks Raed,
For some reason my computer has been crashing every time I go to Google Maps. The San Felasco Hand Launch Festival will be the 3rd weekend in February next year, you guys from the frozen north put it on your calender, we'd like to make it a 2 day contest and more national in scope.
Plus it looks like we have a bi-monthly rivalry with the Orlando Buzzards, Orlando April 12, and San Felasco June 7.

It looks like the map is showing hlg locations, not contests?
