USA DLG Map

I was inspired by Gustavo's Eurotour map and decided to start a similar map for DLG in the USA. I have added all of the Eastern Soaring league (ESL) DLG contests to the map with blue pins. I also added the International Hand Launch Glider Festival with a red pin.

USA DLG map is here (click to view)

I invite anyone to add their own DLG contests to the map.

Great job Phil.

Boy, doesn't it look like the NorthEast is a bunch of competitive fellows! Makes me feel lucky to be so close to so many contests

Adding Pins

Click on my USA DLG map link

Click on EDIT. You will then see some buttons apear on the top left of the map itself.

Type in the address of your contest in the Google maps text box at the top of the page and click SEARCH MAPS, or just surf to your contest site on the map itself. Using the SEARCH MAPS button is just an easy way to find your contest site on the map but it leaves an unwanted marker on the map. Clear that marker by clicking on the blue "clear search results" link.

To add a pin; Click on the pin button that is on the top left of the Google map and then click on your contest site. This will add the pin to the map and open a dialog box. Type in the contest name and other information for the contest in this dialog box. I was including the contest address and web site. You can change the color of the pin by clicking on the pin symbol within that dialog box. I suggest red pins for the San Diego area DLG series contests. Hopefully someone will enter the Blue Sky series contests with a new pin color, etc.

When you are finished adding contests, click SAVE and DONE.

If you are still having trouble then just give your contest information in a post and I'll add it for you. Or feel free to ask questions and I'll try to explain better how to use the Google maps features. I'm still new at using this feature myself so I'd be happy to get pointers from anyone who might know any tricks that I could use.

Lets use this thread as an information source for USA DLG contests in general. If you have any links or information for DLG contest series, leagues or contests within the USA, feel free to post that in this thread.

Help, Can't find the Edit button

Phil
I looked all over and can't find the Edit function from your link. Maybe I'm blind or just unobservant. I wonder if that function is only available to you as the originator of the page. Anyway, I'd like your help identifying the Rocky Mountain Soaring Assn. RMSA, (http://www.rmsadenver.com/) DLG contests and the Blue Skies over Colorado event. Contest calendar is on the website. Location is in Brighton, Co. NE of denver at E 120th and Tower Road.

Thanks for starting this.

I have attached a screen shot showing where I see the Edit button on my screen. You may be correct that only I can edit the map. Gustavo says anyone can edit his map so I figure there must be a way to make the map so that it can be edited by anyone. If you can't see the EDIT button as shown then I must not have the correct settings that allow public editing and I would need someone to tell me how to do that.

Check out the button I added for the Denver contests. Hopefully I got the information correct.

We certainly don't hold contests as I'm trying to get more die hard glider guys, but if you're ever in the Capital of Montana send me a PM and we'll try and get together.

I just noticed that my USA DLG map includes the Eurotour map and vice versa. Not sure how that happened except that I guess I initially got to Google maps by clicking on Gustavo's maps.

Perhaps you need to have a Google ID to use the EDIT feature? I had to sign in with a Google ID to make my map, which actually turns out to be an EDIT of Gustavo's map.

Hey Phil,

Might as well put in the Nats at Muncie. Looks like I might be CD again.

Phil,

When you created the map did you click on "collaborate"? This allows others to edit the map. As it is currently drawn I can't add anything to it.

Thanks John. Looks like that was it. I've clicked on "collaborate" now. I hope that solves the problem.

Ed, Try to add the NATS HL information now.
