Great Planes RV-4 kit build -- my first kit

I got a Nexstar Select RTF kit for Christmas which got me back into the hobby. I got hooked totally by the end of January. So I started looking for a kit to build as a second airplane. A few weeks ago, I sent off an order for the 40 size RV-4. I plan on using the OS .46 FX from my nexstar in this plan. I also just sent out an order for a JR 9303 2.4 radio so that I can use the flaps. I am so pumped to fly this, but first, there is some serious building to do.

I started on the wings. Here are some photos of the ribs and the spars.

Here is the first few steps of sheeting. The leading edges and cap strips over some of the ribs.

I did notice that one or two of my sticks that made the cap strips were harder and less flexible than the others. It was hard to bend it to the shapes of the ribs.

Looking good Brother2...

Question: What kind of paint you'll be using for the cowling and wheel pants?

That's a good question. I guess Lusterkote unless something else works better.

The wingtips are plastic as well.

Use those stiffer rib caps for the bottom of the ribs as they do not need to be bent as much.

Thats what I did. I had already finished one wing. If I would have noticed it earlier, I would have used them on both of the bottoms.

Hi There,
I am also building the RV4 40 kit. I seem to be having a big problem with the leading edge of the wing, although I have not done it as yet I am sure I am going to have a problem matching the leading edge profile of the wing to the wing tips. Can you please give me any tips if you experienced the same problem.
Cedric.

I haven't gotten there yet. I just ordered one of those 11' long great planes sanders. The wing sheeting should be your guide. I'll probably finish the wing next week when my order comes in.

In the mean time, I started the fuselage. I built both sides last night and I plan on doing the top and bottom today.
