Guillows SBD Dauntless

Guillow's A6M5 Zero
Here’s my latest warbird project…a Guillow’s A6M5 Zero (Zeke) constructed mainly with 2” pink foam cut in cross-sections based on the kits plans. Here’s the link to the build thread. WS just under 30” AUW just under 8ozs…powered with a GWS IPS using 2-2 cell LiPo’s (3amp) wired in series. She moves pretty good…

Guillows Kit #503 F6F Hellcat
I'll throw my hat into the ring... I'm attempting the 16 1/2" WS Hellcat. Here's a link to the build thread. Wish me luck, I'm going to need it!
Update: I haven't worked on this in a while, but I am using some sheet foam with printed graphics as the covering. Here's a pic with the bare frame covered with paper templates I'm making to develop the graphics. |

Covered in 1mm depron with every mod known to man done to accomodate for the added thickness. Tail feathers enlarged 6-8% to be more in scale with the slightly beefier look after the plane was covered in 1mm depron. Severe mods made to the canopy saddle to make it fit the thicker plane. Former in the front shaven down 1mm all around to make the plastic cowl fit stock. Powered with a $5 brushless from Hobby King which goes like stink (my 3d). Lipo, simple 10a ESC, ailerons and elevator, 1/4" washout in the wing tips (no tip stall at all but will use a little less next time), paint job took FOREVER and wore me into the ground but it's done (just masking the wings and the canopy was enough). Prop is a 9x4 from Hobby King (a few dollars, good scale match in size and blade shape, very paddle looking blade).
This plane was a whole lot of work, but I'm quite satisfied with the result. Flies like it's on rails but don't you ever ask it to slow down, it will hate you in a bad way (unapologetically built for speed). Have to land quite fast but not impossible). Looking forward to an easier build next. Hope you like it. |

Texan Hellcat And Pt-17 Conversions
I might as well throw mine in there too. i have done a Guillows hellcat in at-6 color scheme. (left overs). I am currently working on a pt-17. i have the wings set but have a question for you experienced biplane builders concerning wing incidences. The plans call for 3/4" dihedral on the lower wing and 0 on the top. Should I add dihedral to the top as well or eliminate it from the bottom or does it matter much?

pt-17 finally finished
I thought i would post my pics of my Guillows PT-17 since I have finally completed it. I have not got to maiden her yet. Went to the park Sunday but must have been the championship soccer play offs or something therefore only got to practice some taxiing.
