I'll be updating reasonably soon with another petrol 6. I like the looks and the price of an 04-05 XR6-T. Good performance std, esp with the 6 speed auto, and serious YEEHAA with minimal mods.

Fuel costs for me is big, I did 1200 KM this week alone, but I need a big car. I tow a boat, often tow bikes, have 1.5 big kids, need a big boot and I like my cars to accelerate up hills Short of buying a Subaru, the safety of smaller cars leave a LOT to be desired. I say this knowing that big 4*4 are just as ordinary.
If u want fuel economy dont buy a XR6 Turbo. Bad on fuel. Ask how I know......

Zooster,

The crazy thing is, a turbo should actually give you improved fuel economy - however I suppose they're used more for "super power" rather than boosting efficiency. :\

A turbo engine should use more fuel with the same transmission set up. More air requires more fuel to keep the fuel air mix the same so therefore it ises more fuel. Now if the transmission were changed to take advantage of the extra power this allows, then I would expect to see better/same fuel efficiency. That's my take on it.

It all depends on 1 formula. Its called the "Right Foot Factor" You probably know how it works. I was on the heavier end of the formula which ended up with an equasion that is.......pushhardonrightpedal X wheelspinandsmoke = 17L 100km.
Next formula......Angrywife = sellbigturbocarfor4cylcar

On a 4cyl car a turbocharged setup is an ideal way to create power while maintaining everyday economy. Stick it on a tractor like a ford and that idea gets shot to hell

I drove a petrol auto l/cruiser for about 12 months, that got about 17L/100k without any wheel spinning. You could almost see shares in BP going up when you approached the servo.

I drove a turbo XR6 once - breathtaking!

Mind you, it was on its second gearbox in less than 40,000km! Poor quality eh!

Graham,

Thanks for sticking this thread

Seems like we've gotten off to a fairly rapid start - not much talk about planes at all though

I should have been flying today except instead I'm busy in the workshop building yet more electronics.

Bummer...

It still meets the entry criteria though... take a photo and put it in the comp thread!
