Range should not be a problem with a properly installed Spectrum dsm2 system.
Just pay attention not to install the receiver (with it's short antennas) inside a carbon fibre fuselage. For a wood or glassfibre airframe the range will be further than your eyes can see... (I've read the number 2miles somewhere, but can't confirm that)
I fly DX7 and AR7000 receiver in an electric 100" sailplane and have flown it very high and far away, never had a glitch or problem.
I use AR7000 RX's in all my applications at the moment...And will use it in future sailplanes as well.
If I'd do it again, I'd still go 2.4ghz but choose the JRx9303 raio, it has more sailplane friendly programming and features. I will probably end up selling the DX7 and buy a X9303... The spectrum receivers work with the JR radio because they are both 2.4ghz dsm2 systems.
Note: Futaba use FASST 2.4ghz system and is not compatible with the Spectrum & JR's.
