Question
1/4 scale Hanriot HD-1 Power?

I'm trying to decide if this is probable. 1/4 scale GTM Hanriot with something like an AXI 5330 series on A123s setup as saddle packs on each side of the firewall. I don't know enough about A123s to make the call though. I'm thinking it would probably need to be 10S2P or 12S2P in order to make the power and have duration. Also the bigger the stick it'll swing the better, something in the 20x6 range around 6000 rpm I think? Also what ESC, phoenix HV 85 or 110? Tanic's site quotes 15 minute charge times and no fire hazard. Would I really only need one set for a scale WWI bipe like this and charge without pulling the cowl prop and packs off?

I guess not many people have A123 experience in the larger scale projects?

Well, I'll jump in.
I'm doing a 10s 123 Dewoitine (Giant scale forum) and have a couple of astro 60 geared looking for future projects.
I think you are heading in the right direction. You have about 13 sq. ft to play with - 16-18lb. Go with 12S packs so that you can pull back on the current a bit. I think a 20-6 prop at 6K is too low a pitch. Rule of thumb: pitch speed equals rpm times pitch minus 10% So your prop/RPM suggests 33-35mph - too low. Increase the pitch to perhaps 10", and drop the diameter to maybe 18" for the same current.
Always go bigger on the ESC - headroom is always good.
As for charging in 15 min. - well...... You have to have a charger and battery that can deliver the current. You might have to go to 2 (or 3!) charging batteries in parallel and some "ubercharger". I think you will be pulling 400W.
