MAybe this will help. Kay Tillman belongs to this clu in Riverside, California. As a matter of fact at there last sailing regatta I won a Newport 12, ready to sail for a couple of 5 dollar raffle tickets.

I've been working on getting the fittings installed on my boat. I picked up turnbuckles, blocks and through bolts from WP Marine, and had a fair amount of the standing rigging fittings made by Model Yacht Fittings. I'm waiting for a third (and final) package to arrive with the backstay pad eye and shroud turnbuckles and the boat will be pretty much complete.

Vince, 1967250, and Stevo

One of you asked me a few months ago if I'd do anything differently, having completed the build. I couldn't think of anything at the time, but after some thought, there is. Just a matter of personal preference, but I think the semi-kit deck camber is too flat. So, make it your own.

Interesting you should say that ooby, I thought the same thing building mine. I put a 1/8" camber on my deck. It's especially noticeable around the main hatch area. I didn't camber the aft deck nearly as much.. I don't know why

Who is the manufacturer of your Newport 12 sails, and what weight cloth is the laminate? They look great.
Also, is there a luff groove in the mast? If not how is the main luff attached?

Seems to me that your milage may vary, WB... these boats, while one design seem to come in at different weights... which will of course affect the waterline length... and pitch of the boat possibly... might want to float test the one you are working on before you commit to paint.

Aero is correct. Newports displace between 38 and 42 lbs. Mine is at the high end becasue of all the scale detail I have put on it. I have also noticed them with different pitch angles, ie. bow up, or bow down. Definately float your boat and mark your's in the water, like I did.
