Hi Air Sally

Im very interested in a set of inlet ducts for my "DevFusFoam version" of the Draken. Im not quite sure how big Claus version is, but I can easily scale it to fit the ducts.

BTW. I just found out there is an ex RDAF Draken (AR-104) just 30 kilometers from where I live. Its a gate guard at Terma which makes "stuff" for military clients including RDAF.

AIR-SALLY, pm sent

claus-xp,

Actually Ive followed the thread from the very beginning, and made a few comments along the way.

Code:
I think we are a little more advanced than the DevFusFoam version-
Im not quite sure what you mean? I took a look at post 600 and I see youre handcutting foamparts with a "cheese cutter" using paper templates. I cut my parts with a CNC foam cutter...

The Devfusfoam Draken I posted a few screenshots of is still WIP. Im still learning how to use the program and Im not in any way saying its better or more scale than your and AIR-SALLYs version. BUT is does conform to the basic scale lines of the plane according to my 3 plan view. And it doesnt have oversized inlets or cheater holes.

Please note that DevFusFoam is used to model the foamparts. Not make scale details like cockpit, slanted inlets and stuff. Its just the basic shape of the fuselage. The inlet openings will have to be hand cut using separate template.

Im NOT building your Draken design, Claus, just designing my own. I just thought the "Draken Lovers" would find it interesting, hence my post. I will not post any more pictures or updates in this thread.

I may do a build thread and name it: J35 Draken build - less advanced than claus-xps Draken

Michael: We are looking forward to your thread on your Draken-build......

It doesn't matter which program you use to make the drawing for a foam model..... there are always some details that needs to be handled after the cnc cutting. Even more if you intend to make it more or less scale.....

My Draken attempts have not turned out so well. I did a little freestyle with the pictures in the post above that were copied and enlarged . I had a little reaction problem with my epoxy .....so I order the MBS Balsa kit from Magnus in Sweden .Did you calculate the C of G with your draken? MBS has it at the step in the wing. My scratch built came out at 1.179 gms without battery and is set up for bungee belly landings.

How necessary is a rudder on this jet? The one I downloaded for realflight 6 slides badly in turns without rudder. I set my scratchbuilt up for bank and crank only, but this may be a mistake.

personally, I can't live without a rudder. there are other reasons other than rudder why planes skid or slide during turns, but a rudder is great for course corrections, especially in cross winds. deltas bleed speed rapidly in turns and other AOA maneuvers, due to loss of total lift with the use of elevons. this can cause skidding in turns. another culprit can be because there's really no way to add differential ailerons, so this can cause adverse yaw, causing the airplane to skid. unfortunately, it's just the nature of the beast.
